That's a sweet one! Pretty please, Engadget? :)
Bingo! Precisely why it won't make the sort of inroads into living rooms described by the author. Unfortunately the folks at Microsoft did not / do not have the vision that may of us users got excited about when buying into the XBox 360. No Blu-Ray, No wifi means that it will never be the all-in-one media super king it could've been.
Only a small percentage of Vista users use the Media Center functionality built into their PCs. Unless there is a radical rethink at MS about how these features are bundled and sold, there is not going to be much change.

Now if Boxee were to release / tie up with a hardware maker.. that would be something that can change the game.. :)
This looks great! Chumby is great for internet feeds and connected music. I hope it comes with a remote.
Didn't Sony announce a similar product as well?
Actually the Chumby has a backup battery (9v) so it should be able to keep time in case of power outages too.
Did you really help pay for this? It is quite possible that the $45 million came out of the billions that Californians pay in Federal Taxes every year. We do make up about 12% of the nation's population!
You're comparing apples and oranges. This appears to be a DLNA compliant media server that "serves" media to other devices that may "play" it (AppleTV would be a play device).

It would replace a NAS or computer in the typical home. Seems like it would work very nice with the PS3 or the wifi photo frame announced today. I wish they had a version is glossy black.
Time to flyyyy awayyyyy to Engadget land :)
Good job Engadget, swee swag!
Happy Birthday again! Were there any other prizes? :)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"For a long time I have been searching for a portable device where I can store all of my CDs in MP3 format and stream the songs wirelessly to my HiFi system. The portable device must I've tried FM transmitters, they all suck. I don't want a docking station. Any help? Thanks!" have a display so that I easily can scroll through the playlists (I don't want to use a TV or monitor). I suppose that there must also be a second device that is connected to the HiFi system that would receive the wireless streams from the portable device.
