Can someone highlight a potential use for this, other than that of some sweet eye-candy?

I look at it and think its like those lenticular posters - cool, but you can't actuall *do* anything with them...

I can't actually see how this would bring any new features, or UI usability...
All pretty good so far... except:

Letterbox, MailTags and ActOn in the new Mail.app won't load (Mail does tell you that they're not loading and you should contact the developer)
Stattoo - seems to misbehave (strange transparency issues, not updating modules, etc), then not work at all... and I love that little app!

Some of the new screen saver effects for photos kept crashing System Preferences at first, but that seems to be okay now....

Just about to start the Time Machine process now... (I waited until everything else was okay first!)
I'm okay with the whole thing actually.

Yes, it's a shame there's no 3G, but I'm an O2 customer already and haven't had the ability to use it up till now, so I'm not losing anything.

I'd much prefer the Hot-Spot deal, as it seems everywhere I've taken my laptop, there is a Cloud hot-spot location and to have them be free for the iPhone makes me a happy person.

The phone being the same as the US was expected, if we're honest. Releasing a UK model that was drastically different to the US would have been a major issue for the Americans, especially with the recent price cut.

When you take in to account US sales tax the price for the phone isn't that different.

What will be interesting to see is if other phones (ugh.. like the N95... how fugly is that thing!) do against this one. It's been a long time since anyone on a £35p/m contract has had to pay for a phone on most networks. I've never paid for a phone and I've been using and upgrading my phone for the last 10 years.

8Gb is also fine by me. I traded in my 20Gb 3rd Gen iPod last year for a 2Gb nano, and recently I wanted some video on my commute so I got a 30Gb iPod + Video. Even with a load of video (more than can be watched on two full recharges) I never get through it all. Even though I have a 120gb+ music library, I never want or need all of it when I'm away from my desktop setup (which is usually only a couple of days at most).

So I'll flog my 30Gb iPod and pick up one of these.

If only to get one up on those showing off their iPod touches by making a call on mine :D
Yeah, because of all the weeks in the year, *this* is the week to announce a new phone...
I think this interesting idea might be buried by tomorrows Apple announcement....
Yes Please! Give a british guy a chance!
Oh.... yes please! And I can use it in the UK too!! Yey!
Pretty Camera! Pick a British guy for once, eh?

A question for next week:

I have a two-mac set-up - one MacMini, which acts as a server-like machine (both printers and three external hdds attached) and the other is a MacBook Pro.

Both connect to my (crappy, service-provider-supplied) WIFI router for internet access, but are also wired with an ethernet cable for data access (ie for accessing the Mini drives on my MBP).

I always seem to have a problem with printer sharing though. Most of the time, my two printers show up twice each - one reachable through WIFI and one reachable through Ethernet. Because of my work, I'm often printing large image-heavy documents and printing over WIFI often just doesn't print at all or takes forever because of the transfer rate. The problem is, when choosing a printer it's impossible to see which is the WIFI connected one and which is the ethernet connected one! You can't even name them differently.

Is there an application or setting I can tweak to only allow printer sharing over ethernet? Is my setup a bit daft?

Any help would be grand,

Thanks! Lee.
It would be replacing my $30 Mickey Mouse watch.

I've had it for seven years :(
Steve, are you asking for flames?

Not all who read Engadget are from the USA, and many of us who've sat through the photos of lines, videos of lines, unboxing and reviews (ad infinitum, but good work guys) can't wait to find out when we get the phone.

Strangely, this site isn't *just* about what you want.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
