Home built WHS works like a dream. 7 integrates beautifully, 32 and 64 bit Ultimate auto backing up nightly to the server. I'm looking forward to the upgrade, although I don't see downsides for my purposes right now. My desktop 7 ultimate 32 bit crapped out just yesterday - first time since beta 7100, blue screen of death- repeatedly. So I took the plunge and did the restore from WHS - Flawless. It took over 2 hrs - "C" had over 350GB of programs on it. I use it for movie storage - just throw in another HD when things get full - 3.7TB and growing.
I recently did the "upgrade" route with a new 64bit Gateway lappy, took just under an hour, preserved all programs and drivers in tact - then hitched up to Windows Home Server, backed the 168gb install up in 17min. To put this in perspective - it took just over 2 hrs to pull 8gb of files off the old Inspiron 8200 and transfer them over to the new laptop by usb stick. So upgrade was NOT an issue.
I'm economically stimulated just thinking about getting an Xbox - I don't have one!
I accept this challenge!
Roooooossssssbud..... Remember meeee!
Give money to the people who cant pay their mortgages, and then they will be able to. Then the banks will have their money too.... And I will get the prize!
I know, I may have already won! All you have to do is tell me!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
