AT&T responds to Verizon's 3G ad campaign -- by bragging about EDGE {Engadget}
Nov 12th 2009 7:33PM EDGE really is not that bad when the signal strength is good. I came from an EV-DO Sprint phone to a Curve 8310 (Edge only) a few months ago. While I won't argue theoretical maxes or peaks, I have to say, I tethered for about 5 hours a few days ago with the Curve just about every site I use on a regular basis loaded just fine for me (including engadget).
3g is great, but Edge is hardly intolerable. Not to mention Edge is a whole lot better than the 1xRTT Sprint would drop down to outside of the city/suburbs.

GSM Palm Pre unlocked with a little Rebel assistance {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2009 2:05PM They're talking about the euro version here, because the US version is on Sprint's CDMA network.
The point is that it's one step closer to working with US networks, and now can switch off to many networks in Europe. Shockingly, there is more to the world (and engadget readership) than just the USA.

DROID headed to Germany as Motorola MILESTONE (update: Italy too, no Google Maps Navigation) {Engadget}
Nov 2nd 2009 1:44AM So is this confirming that there's going to be a GSM available? Damn shame that it won't have US 3G bands (or so BGR thinks)... looking to switch up from a Blackberry Curve to an iPhone or Android, and this would fits my bill of requirements perfectly...
REPORT: Labor unrest in India to cause Ford to idle key NA crossover plant {Autoblog}
Oct 25th 2009 10:15PM @paul34: Usually (from what I've seen with my time there), companies can replace labor relatively rapidly and divert the strike. Not sure what's going on with this particular supplier. Even when the locales we work in riot, it dies down in a week or two, and that's an entire town rioting, not a simple factory strike.
@daleam9: One of the Merriam-Webster definitions of racism: "racial prejudice or discrimination". That would be the definition I was going for. Bigotry would also apply, while I don't think sheer ignorance would be enough to make statements like that.

Oct 25th 2009 1:54PM Wow, you people are racist. One factory on strike can be extrapolated to a whole country? Please, at least pretend to think before commenting.
AT&T touts Opera-powered full web browsing with new phones from Samsung and Pantech {Engadget}
Oct 5th 2009 12:38AM The samsung is pretty hot...and if this browser is as good as it purports to be, this could finally slow down sales of Blackberries simply as glorified qwerty dumbphones (cant count the number of people i've met who have 0 need for the blackberry email/server)
