anyond done performance comparison with opendns?
I may try this. I don't really like the way the new start menu works. For 99% of the times I start something not already pinned to the taskbar, I use Launchy. When I hit the start menu, I'm looking for something or browsing for something I don't remember.

The reason the comparison is still of interest, is that as web developers we've been forced to go to great lengths and spend a great deal of time adding special functions and code, and removing otherwise nice features just because there are so many users still using IE6. IE6 presents major compatibility problems for site designers.

Unfortunately, while the move to IE7 and IE8 is growing, many corporations still standardize on IE6 for the time being so we're still stuck supporting it.

Seems to me you can do that already with a few mail rules.
If you believe in this "vision" of a totally open marketplace, then bad apps are part of the bargain. True "open" types will need to establish community sites with peer review processes and rating systems they trust. These open community indexes will have to emerge to fill the need.
The thing is, from the brief work I've done with it so far -- it looks solid and it looks like something end users will really like. I think a lot of people are underestimating the repressing effect of Vista. There may be a larger number of consumers who haven't wanted to buy a new machine because they've heard bad things about Vista than anyone realizes.
Everyone seems so positive about win7; It sounds like the UI is much better. I'm worried though, that the underpinnings are still Vista -- and we're going to get suckered into another OS that prevents me from managing my own machine through "protected" parts of the file system, internally encrypted registry-like databases, and so on.

My daughter's Vista laptop needs a complete wipe and re-install to fix a problem with updates (I spent 16 hours on trying to fix it -- and I've got 20 years software development and IT support experience).

I'm very reluctant to install an OS that I can't repair on a machine I consider critical to my work (desktop or laptop).
I may just spend the dollars to get the full version even though the free one works for what I need -- because these guys are doing such a great job and doing it so ethically.
I'd be much more interested in seeing this if it did two things:

#1 Don't show me the executable. Tie it to the installed program visible by name in the "add/remove programs" functionality.

#2 Show me the least used programs (from that list) so I can uninstall them.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
