Giveaway Monday: Burn Notice season one - VIDEO {TV Squad}

Jun 16th 2008 3:17PM I'll definitely watch season 2.

Western Digital developing 20,000RPM Raptor to take on SSDs? {Engadget}

Jun 6th 2008 2:19PM I don't think stability or longevity is a real concern if its going to be used as a desktop drive. People don't move their desktops often so the situation isn't like a laptop where constant movement may damage the mechanical parts of the drive. As for longevity, 7egend makes a valid point about SCSI drives. These drives probably have a very long life (as Rynth mentions). Heck, don't SSD's have a limit for the read/write cycles? I'm not sure but I was under the impression that if SSD's are used a lot they may last a bit less than normal harddisks.

Lastly, even if the platters were to burst out of the case, I'm sure the HDD cage will stop most of the stuff from pinballing around :)

Flipping the Linux switch: Banshee learns to sing {Download Squad}

May 31st 2008 4:50AM I installed banshee from source (took me a while) seems stable enough, imported covers fine. Looks easy enough to navigate. Right now, i'm only missing amorak's lyrics (maybe a plugin later...)

Flipping the Linux switch: Banshee learns to sing {Download Squad}

May 29th 2008 12:27AM I used to use amarok, but lately ( I guess since they last updated it) it freezes EVERY time a song gets switched. Im pretty sure its because I use Gnome desktop because it works fine when i switched to KDE. But I'm not a big fan of KDE, so i switched back to Gnome, but I can't use amarok now.

I tried using other players (exaile most recently) but none of them are as polished or intuitive as Amarok. I guess i'll try banshee now and hopefully it won't send me back to windows media player (and windows). What can i say, I need my music!

Firefox 3 to get at least one more release candidate {Download Squad}

May 28th 2008 10:28PM I have been using firefox RC1 for a few days now. For the most part its stable. A couple of times it randomly crashed as I closed the broswer, so my foxmarks plugin didn't get a chance to sync, but I can't reproduce that error. Other than that I'm loving it. It's faster than than firefox 2 when it comes to loading pages, and seems more responsive. The RAM usage is still high though.

How I Met Your Mother: The Goat - VIDEO {TV Squad}

Apr 30th 2008 12:38AM I think traditionally the engagement ring goes on the left hand. However, Robin was wearing a ring on the right hand so it's just some ring.

Flipping the Linux switch: Xfce, the hidden gem of desktop environments {Download Squad}

Apr 30th 2008 12:32AM Im using Xfce on a virtual machine and it seems very snappy compared to Gnome w/ all the effects off. The VM runs on 2 cores @ 2.4 ghz, 750 Mb RAM.

However, on another PC, I have Gnome w/ Compiz running on a P4 (2.8 Ghz) with 1 Gb of RAM and that runs great. When I switched to Xfce, I kind of missed some of the effects and the 'expose' application so reverted back to the Gnome desktop manager.

DExposeE2: Expose clone for Windows {Download Squad}

Apr 24th 2008 12:37AM I use the program called switcher (mentioned in the article) and it works great. As for 'turbofool' I think the combination that is faster depends on whether you're using the mouse or the keyboard when you're working. E.g. I use Alt+Tab when I'm using Word or Excel and need to go back and forth between them. That way my hand never leaves the keyboard.

However, if i'm juggling more than 2 or 3 programs then i just use the mouse to invoke the switcher program (its like expose). It's a lot quicker as i can preview several windows pretty easily and then select any one with the mouse or even the keyboard.

Smallville: Traveler {TV Squad}

Mar 21st 2008 7:02AM I share your sentiments too. I used to watch it regularly and enthusiastically for the first 3 to 4 seasons. Then I watched it regularly because I had invested too much time in it. But now, I just gave up on the show. I stopped watching it when Kara lost her powers. Didn't even bother watching it later. Now I just read the reviews here to see whats happening. It seems that the show has just stopped progressing. Its the same old stories, retold in a slightly different fashion every season.
