SanDisk is reinforcing its base, which is a simple one: people that don't like iPods, for whatever reason. When there's a market leader, there are a bunch of people that just Don't Like It, for whatever reason.

The downside to their ads is, well, there's no real mention of SanDisk. It's not an ad so much as a negative campaign against the l00s3rs that use iPods. Weird.

At least the iRiver ads plastered around town show you the product & company name. This looks like the CEO of SanDisk is lashing out in some kind of odd music player vendetta.
An Apple store open all day = free internet access 24 hours a day. In NY, that'll drive a lot of traffic into the store.

As it is, the SoHo store is filled with people checking their gmail. I expect the uptown store to be no different.
Today's Jargon: Macroblocking.
#2: Note that if Apple improved the quality of their devices any more, they'd have 100% of the market instead of the really large percentage they have now.

In any case, you could always buy your music at allofmp3.com. It's mp3, so it'll work on the iPod and other devices.

#6, why not use WinAmp to convert your songs? It's not that hard. The caveat is that it may or may not be legal to transcode from one DRM system to another.

whoo! need a new phone!
As an FYI, the DMProxy (entry #9) hint has been working for me for weeks now. I don't particularly care why it works, but it does.
If they were going to be writing a Google OS, Hertzfeld wouldn't be working on it. From what I remember, the original MagicCap OS was a disaster. It was big, slow, bloated, and prone to memory problems. Waldemar Horwat (yes, that is his real name) rearchitected and rewrote big chunks of it and made it better, but by then it was too late for MagicCap. If I was going to get someone to write an OS, it would be Waldemar...or any of the BeOS guys.
You know, I've been using XP for a while now, and I don't get BSOD's anymore. What happens instead is the freaking box just freezes, and I have to press the reset button. Progress? I suppose it is.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
