1 semester left after this one, into the real world i will go.
the fact that flash has thus remained hindered is amazing. this is not a feature, it's a much overdue necessity. for such a widely used product adobe remains wholly complacent. surprise and release it now i mean there always seems like there's a flash update. quietly put it in an update and surprise the crap out of everyone and make everyone happy and they'd be all like "wow ,this is awesome, adobe is great, i didn't know flash could run so well"

I'm so sick of flash now, most things are wholly unusable on "slower" computers, pages crawl with small flash apps. However, most slower computers have something to accelerate video to make flash great. c'mon already.
Lack of keyboard can be annoying? So all those touch screen phone users, especially the ones who text nonstop, are crippled and really should have a physical keyboard? I don't think so, this thing looks awesome. However, the specs do look fairly weak and an ipod touch might be a better bet, who knows I'd like to check this out.
Nice mustache you plushly white bag of flesh. Instead of making life a little easier why doesn't engadget test out some bikes that require human power. These bikes are engadget material, simplistic, generally very expensive due to exotic materials and design while being totally green. I highly doubt most people who buy this are going to pedal anywhere unless they absolutely have to.
I agree. People tend to be far to negative and unreceptive to new ideas. While I live in America I can clearly see why America has become such a joke around the world. Europeans (ohhh and the majority of the world) drive smaller goofy looking cars and we in our huge SUVs and 8 bedroom houses look down on that (or the moron with with the 23 295GTX video cards). I'd say Engadget readers are fairly well educated, middle to middle-upper+ class people.

Those who have commented (I'd say most comments have been negative or just stupid) show the typical attitude and lack of understand that most Americans have. This thinking has gotten us where we are today, a collapsed banking system, government and corporate corruption (unavoidable but manageable) and the worst part; a population of xenophobic sheep that would not know where to begin a revolution. OR you're too comfortable in front of your computer screen with plush chair to do anything.

Build these things for the masses, albeit with a few key changes. A lot of people need at most 35 miles to go to work and back, or just to work because you can then charge it at work. Electric in all sorts of devices from small commuters to larger, longer distance vehicles is inevitable. Rather than hate, celebrate. HAHA seriously though if you don't like something give suggestions on what to change.
I have the 1030sw primarily for rafting and scuba/snorkeling and while the ruggedness is awesome, the picture quality is crap. I detest the pictures but I love how durable it is. Like other people have said unless you REALLY need waterproof/shockproof (which you really DON'T for skiing) go for something with great image quality.
thanks for remembering the met 5, we all know how that last. i'm not charging my jacket. if i can store the energy used while move to warm me while stationary i'm all for it. as for you all who are saying a way to keep the extremities warm... Loki has jackets with integrated mitts that will use core warmth for your hands. There is also an integrated neck gaiter to help stay warmer easier. Check out http://www.lokiusa.com/
Finally MAYBE a nice phone that looks good and won't break after 1 or 2 years?! Could it be? I'm getting sick of these asshole wireless companies putting out sweet phones that break very easily. Planned obsolescence is a bitch for those of us that don't want to upgrade to the latest/greatest. Cell phones, many many years ago, used to be super strong, albeit heavy, and they lasted. Now, sadly, we've gone for the eye candy while the candy man who sells it to us laughs all the way to bank. I'll take one of these please.
I think these manufacturers should focus less on publishing screen response times and work harder on the technology they use. I have no idea if these are TN/PVA/IPS panels. Because of their price I feel they COULD be mva/ips panels (though I doubt the 22" is) but who knows. I don't even see viewing angles on the link so I have to assume these are TN panels which are merely... ho hum.
I was wondering that myself. However, this SPOT unit is solely based on GPS signals. Other sorts of PLBs/EPRB are based on LEOSAR sats that are for Search and Rescue with a GPS feature included for better accuracy. Hence the lack of any noticeable antenna. I think it's a better solution than the $750 PLBs that exist now.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
