'Wow...looks very plain for such a supposedly complex machine. '

And people proclaim Apple as having the best designs why??? For their 'next-gen complexity'?

Think about that for a second.

@jiggsaw

For someone so convinced, why are you wasting your time watching PS3 trailers? Shouldn't you be playing Halo or something? Chatting it up with your PEEPS on Live?
@Sputnik

That 41% you quote is for a HYPOTHETICAL Intel CPU.

One that DOES NOT exist.

Nice try though. An 'A' for effort.
boolean22:

'That's because there ain't benchmarks yet, since these are new.'

'Clocked at up to 2.8GHz, supposedly AMD's new Socket F products can beat out Woodcrest Xeons, not that that's any real surprise.'

Now either there are no benchmarks, making Engadget's statement false.

Or there are benchmarks, making your statement false.

Which is it.

'But I think the PS3 at $500 and $600 is far to great of a gamble. Being that most games on the system can be had for the 360 and they have yet to show any tangible online strategy...it just doesn't add up to spend hundreds extra on a PS3 while it's competitor is doing all the same things for less and offering consumers a choice in the matter to boot.'

Are you serious???

The PS/3 is for GAMES, not just watching movies, right?

And if you paid $399 for a 360, then $200 more for an add on HD-DVD drive, um....dosen't that EQUAL the price of a PS/3? At MOST you've saved $100 dollars.

Sounds like you're a bit of a fanboy.

'There are supposedly 400 Titles set for release by this Christmas for HD-DVD compared to 200 Titles for BluRay.'

Won't matter because store front retailers so far are reluctant to purchase EITHER format for lack of floor space to display DVD,HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray titles all at once.

So the idea that the Christmas season is 'make or break' for either camp is a little far fetched.

Not that facts matter to engadget but here goes....ready

from sonystyle.com product page...

*Playback of commercial movies on Blu-ray Disc (BD-ROM) requires additional software/hardware not included with this product. Requires compatible high-definition display for high-definition playback. Playback of AACS protected media may require an HDCP compliant output and HDCP compliant display. Photo CD playback requires additional software not bundled with this drive.

Ouch.

Now remember, there are no laptops either.

Cuz in the Apple instruction manuals, they tell you it's a notebook.

Semantics are really a female dog sometimes.
'Also, the 360 controller does not suck.'

Actually, it does.

It's too 'wide' from front to back while being held.
The analog sticks are crap for Fight Night.

But Carry on.
FUD anyone?

Faster.....no.
Cheaper.....not really.
Cooler runnin........where did you get that from?

How did I guess it was Ryan Block who wrote this?

Everytime Ryan doesn't fact check, a puppy dies.
'in 2 years we'll have forgotten all about this thing just like we have the UMPC and the tablet PC.'

FUD ALERT!!!

FUD ALERT!!!

FUD ALERT!!!

Find cover in your neartest FUD Shelter!!!

I dislike Microsoft as much as the next, but...

reality tells me that having such an integrated media delivery system gives them a hugh opportunity to market any portable device as a viable alternative to the ipod.(if they can work out the kinks in media center)

What it will come down to is the features list of the device.

If MS did something crazy like support multiple playlist formats, drag-and-drop and open media formats, then maybe.
'You'll have to forgive us for'...

Still posting FUD BS about a formfactor, which your only complaints about are battery life and price.(which if you took some time to REALLY think about, has nothing to do with the validity of the UMPC idea itself)

But why bother with such things when you can simply repeat the same rants over and over again?
Sorry to break topic but engadget is a lil slow.

Net Neutrality was defeated in committee today 11-11.

The bill headed to the Senate, if passed, marks the end of the internet as we now know it. It will be 'Pay As We Say'.

The telecomms will be in a position to degrade services from competitors.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
