Pick Me Please! Thanks Engadget!
While I admire Linux (I was re-introduced through Ubuntu after many years), it still hasn't got to the point where you can be completely productive without going through hassle. For Example, I use a laptop with a docking station and I cannot get my external monitor to work at a different resolution from my laptop screen. Similarly, my back and forward buttons do not work with firefox. These are things that one is just simply used to doing without thinking. While I'm sure patches are available, it is not worth the time to go around finding them.

As for price, most systems you buy come preloaded with Windows (XP/Vista or whatever) or OSX, and as far as I can tell, the price is about $80 bucks less when you buy without an OS, which in the grand scheme of a grand, isn't much.

Just my 2c.
Speaking of a sweet laptop with Vista, The Vista Thinkpads are out

they also released the nx9420, which is a 17 inch desktop replacement that got an awesome review from laptopmag. so its weird that they continue with mediocrity. read it here - http://www.coreduoinfo.com/blog/2006/05/10/hp-compaq-nx9420-review/
why compaq and hp? give up compaq already. this site seems to agree with me. http://www.coreduoinfo.com/blog
Check out detailed specs and pics of the new hp laptops here http://www.coreduoinfo.com/blog. i cant understand why they keep sticking with the 2 brand names. why cant they drop compaq now?
Waiting for my 650!!

"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
