User Account Control to be less annoying in Windows 7 {Download Squad}
Oct 10th 2008 11:59AM 110% correct, of course, but then in the 80s there was no reason to think people would ever have remote access to your computer unless you were running a BBS.
Firefox Mobile Alpha coming in "a few weeks" {Download Squad}
Oct 7th 2008 12:16PM My only problem is that so many browsers these days are trying to be an OS on top of the OS -- Opera 9.5 beta is a joy to use, but it takes like 30+ seconds to load. IE is ancient, slow to render, and looks like garbage, but I can press the button and be looking at a web page in about 5 seconds. That's insane. I'm worried that FF Mobile is going to be so bloated it won't be worth waiting for it to finish starting up...

Oct 6th 2008 12:47PM Unless they're on a laptop, people really have no business griping about how memory-hungry Vista is. If you're on an older desktop, consider the extra ~40-50 bucks it now costs for 4 gigs of RAM to be part of the upgrade cost. If you're buying a new system that comes with Vista, you're a retard (or the vendor is a dishonest prick) if the system comes with less than 2 gigs stock.
The one thing I hate about Linux {Download Squad}
Oct 6th 2008 12:40PM So... yeah, the "one thing" I hate about Linux, as this article points out, is that unlike Windows or Mac where you might have to poke around a bit to find the one "right way" of doing something, there's a hundred ways of doing things, and most of those are subtly wrong in different ways.

Truth serum - online fact checking sites for political open season {Download Squad}
Sep 30th 2008 11:58AM #1 and #2 have some substance behind their criticism. Take a look at this:
McCain: "Senator Obama has the most liberal voting record in the United States Senate." = "Barely True"
In actual fact, one of the most widely-referred-to and highly-regarded senator-rating websites ranks Obama as the most liberal, and several other sites have him tied at "100% liberal" with other senators. Even if he ranks behind somebody else by a few points, McCain's general point -- that Obama is absolutely by no means a "centrist" as he sometimes tries to portray himself -- should be considered bright-green "TRUE", not "barely true".

Sep 29th 2008 1:32PM They honestly expect people to pay a monthly/yearly fee just because they love the interface so much? On the one hand, that's bullcrap and I hope they fail. On the other hand, the "idiot" market is plenty large enough to sustain such a product...

Sep 29th 2008 1:28PM Why oh why does MS refuse to fix wi-fi sync? I'm pretty sure it was taken out because people were using it over non-secure connections (and the protocol was not secure by design), but that really should be easy to fix, and I *can't* be the only person with wi-fi but not bluetooth...
