Apple replacing faulty MagSafe power adapters, too {Engadget}

Aug 20th 2008 2:00AM Same problem with the old style connectors on the iBooks and PowerBooks. Simply put, the cable on all of Apples portables power adpaters is not strong or durable enough, and never has been. However Apple seems to only be interested in replacing these in cases where the cables short and start melting/burning the plastic insulator.

Skooba's TSA-approved bag -- for real this time {Engadget}

Jul 8th 2008 5:14PM If it means less pain at the airport, I'll take functionality over form.

Rogers announces iPhone 3G plans, unlimited data isn't one of them {Engadget}

Jun 27th 2008 10:49AM Roger's you remain the bemused fools in the telcom industry of Canada. With these kinds of plans, simply put, to hell with the iPhone. And for good measure, to hell with Rogers all together.

Broadcast Flag rides again, courtesy of NBC & Microsoft? {Engadget}

May 18th 2008 5:27PM Who in their right mind would want to record anything on NBC other than Heroes and Chuck anyways?

Dell dropping XPS, focusing on Alienware -- Dell says no {Engadget}

May 13th 2008 12:26AM I would hardly call the Alienware name pristine. It definitely is anything but that from my experience, now granted this was from 2 years ago.

My best friends experience with them landed him paying the shipping for the newly delivered Alienware laptop to Florida from Canada to fix a fried motherboard. Upon its return he found that in the process of refitting it with a new motherboard the repair center folks had fried the wireless card. Making it worse the tech support persons were more than happy to offer the option of him paying more money to ship it to Florida to have it fixed again. He happily declined the offer a second time, but sadly those were the last of his troubles with that computer. It culminated in him finding out that the root reason it sounded like a hair dried 90% of the time was because they lopped on a fatty coating of thermal grease.

So given past experience with this so called awesome company I can't say I much care for them regardless of if they are under new management or not.

New iMacs running an overclocked Penryn chip, not Montevina {Engadget}

Apr 28th 2008 7:38PM Montevina is a platform, not a processor. Penryn is a processor, not a platform.

Dell to cut even more jobs as it reduces costs {Engadget}

Apr 3rd 2008 10:28PM Investors are a nasty bunch, you give them $12 billion one year, they expect $18 billion the next. It is the nature of public companies.

Sony is giving "Fresh Start" a fresh start, losing the $50 fee {Engadget}

Mar 21st 2008 6:36PM Of course it costs money, I understand that, and more importantly that I can easily get rid of all the 'crapware' with a reinstall. But some people in the wonderful computing world are more than willing to spend a bit more for a computer that doesn't come with 'crapware' flowing out of every port. I am one of those wonderful pretentious bastards.

Mar 21st 2008 6:23PM Now if only we could get the rest of the computer industry to drop 'crapware' from initial installs.
