"Duh, the only audio input will have to be via USB or the built-in mic."

Hang on, the MacBook Air has bluetooth, so I'm presuming I can still use a bluetooth headset.
I'm confused, you have IE7 and another Origami browser, presumably still using the IE7 rendering engine?
Why? SlickRun's website is sparse on information.
I am also currently using the Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. I was previously using the Evoluent VerticalMouse 2 (http://www.evoluent.com/vmouse2.html) and although this better ergonomics than Microsoft's Natural mouse with a pure vertical design instead of a compromised slanted design, I missed the flexibility of wireless mice (allowing me to quickly reposition my working documents in front of me and sideline my keyboard and mouse) and found Evoluent's drivers a little buggy. I feel Microsoft's mouse has a better wheel and build quality than the VerticalMouse 2 (this may have been addressed with the VerticalMouse 3 after reading its improvements - it's just a pity Evoluent decided not add a wireless design with the recent revision).
What is a shame is that from a casual glance at the preview, a significant new feature of Office 2007 is missing from Office:mac 2008 - dynamic previews. Office 2007 introduced dynamic previews allowing you to hover over a new formatting style and have the selected area preview the new formatting style applied to that area. This was achieved by a ground-up rewrite of the rendering engine in Office 2007. The idea of this feature was to replace the "select area-choose format-apply-choose another format-apply" loop with a simplier "select area-hover over format-hover over another format...-apply" process. (I remember reading this on Jensen Harris's blog somewhere)

I'm guessing that a feature like this would need to be built into the system rather than added in a later beta, therefore I can only presume that Office:mac 2008 wasn't able to implement dynamic previews with a reasonable level of responsiveness.
All someone needs to do now is hack the DS for sidetalkin'!
cheese!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
