European 3G users break 100 million, 2G laughs maniacally {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 30th 2008 6:51AM I suspect these figures are way off. The trend across most of Europe is to buy a new phone each year and since almost all new phones in Europe are 3G I suspect a far larger proportion of the phones in *active* use are 3rd generation. The high number of 2G (more likely 2.5G actually) phones still knocking about are more likely forgotten pre-pay phones now sat in the back of drawers that still count as active subscriptions but haven't been used in yonks.
iPhone 3G purchase and activation will be in-store only {Engadget}
Jun 11th 2008 8:31AM From O2 UK website:
"You'll be able to purchase the iPhone online at o2.co.uk"
This, about porting a number from another network, is also telling:
"let us know your PAC code when you purchase your iPhone in-store, or contact us online once you've received your new handset."
So sounds like you'll be able to activate in-store OR via iTunes. Happy days.

May 8th 2008 8:34AM O2 has told Stuff that - despite the message on the website - the 16GB iPhones are only temporarily out of stock and will be replenished. Also plenty of stock in O2 stores. Seems an odd sign to post up on the website in that case.

Apr 7th 2008 4:00PM Have you tried turning off auto levels and doing the monitoring yourself? Most recorders in auto mode will 'boost' the sensitivity if things fall quiet so silence will equal a lot of hiss.

Air France launches in-flight calling trial {Engadget}
Apr 3rd 2008 10:30AM Er, Air France does too - and every other carrier the world over. Allowing calls during flights isn't carte blanche to use them during take off and landing.
