@arteekay...you're splitting ass hairs dude.

Telling somebody else "at the keyboard" to go to a site is the same thing as being on it yourself.

Put down the bong.
@Brian...it's a vanilla install. No 3rd party software is on the box.

All of the comments I am reading fly in the face of reported issues and first hand experience.

None of these random issues occur under my multiple XP or linux machines...

Obsessive/compulsive behaviour can be a problem?!? Who woulda guessed...
So did Machiavelli...
Not necessarily dumb...but using black and gray as colors certainly seems to be...you can bake a croissant in there perhaps on a hot day...points subtracted.

If this doubles as a bag for your laptop...points there. If not it should be much smaller so you could easily put it in your existing bag.

Bag as carry for laptop is near twice the height it really needs to be...points subtracted.

The little external pouch for your probablyWontFit cellphone? Points.

This could be quite handy given the above were met.
Never had any issues with Vista? You can only be doing simple tasks like web browsing and email.

My new tx1410us (hp tabletpc) has AMD64x2/HomePremium and runs like molasses.

Took 75% more time to scan my 20GB media (legal) collection than XP. Much of my legal media takes 20sec before playing in MCE.

Scheduled backups? Gone. Remote admin of any kind? Gone.

Had hard crash and had to rollback updates after 1 day.

Crashes every day on me. Still won't recognize 2nd 320GB usb drive. It worked for first 2 days then I started getting usb drive errors. Same exact hub and 2 drives works fine on XP.

Only Vista Ultimate gives you remote admin capability, backups and XP down...I mean upgrade option.

I want what you're smoking.
The addition of fingerprint and camera is a must-have for on-the-go use of tablet. Kudos.

It doesn't seem to support LED screen which is a bummer as straight-outdoor displays semi-suck indoors in certain lighting conditions. Ok but not best.

If they only offer Vista (but which version?!?) this is another big problem.

Only version of Vista to even remotely consider (if you're an idiot) is Vista Ultimate. It's the only version offering XP down..I mean upgrade and isn't stripped of the basic utilities that XP has: scheduled backups, ability to easily TermSrv/VNC into box for admin tasks (lesser vistas will kill your vnc USER MODE session on any admin dialog prompt...and these occur damn near every operation). If you're doing anything remotely reeking of admin ability...need that Ultimate.

I just purchased an HP TX1410us for $999 (after rebate) and certain mp3 files take 20seconds to start playing (dial home anybody?) and many won't play complaining about missing license...which I never needed on XP.

Damn thing errors out on one of my 2x320GB HDDs whereas XP has no issues. Took 4 hours to 'make right' from Office Depot. After 2 days already had a hard crash using MediaCenter and had to rollback an update.

MediaCenter took 4+ hours to scan my 20GB of media.

So far...so bad for me. I am now looking into Linux touchscreen support...never again.
I agree...the keybd is useless. I find it easier to type on my PepperPad3 with chiclet 'split' keyboard than this. It's so small it (for me) is only useable as a thumb keyboard...but due to size this is unwieldy to do.
Nobody with a mobile tablet cares about a fingerprint reader?!?

Yeah...I sure don't want the convenience of a 1sec finger swipe for logging in after auto-lock. I'd much rather fumble with the stylus.
I bought a Kodak V1233 12M camera from Costco for $200 and am very pleased (2 amazon reviews are negative though).

It does 720p video (1024x768@30fps) and does it well. I had to rtfm though in order to get quality pics...imagine that.

Nicest part is that camera has SDHC and a 5v DC charging jack...which is USB voltage. I merely purchased a USBtoDC power plug and can now charge the camera over computer-less USB hubs, from the wall and from a usb battery pack.

I even found I could get extra batteries (100% oem) from China for around $5 instead of the $30 Kodak/others want...sweet!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
