i have a feeling att's network is about to get so slow having enough bandwidth for checking your email will be a miracle. but then they will actually have a real incentive to make it faster. SLINGBOX.
id easily pay 1k-2k more for all of these features and full frame. for video and film people the reason these cams are interesting is because of the amazing look the 35mm frame gives you.

replaced by what exactly? compressed hdv? expensive varicams that shoot on tape?
Now each 32 gig card won't hold 3 hours of footage... more like a half hour.
donkey kong for serius
i agree with scbowman - get an older used prosumer camera. you need an xlr input and that camera would have decent optics as well as a focus ring and can be used better as a tool to learn how to shoot. be wary of hdv. it slows your editing down A LOT and its compressed making color correction a bastard. a pd100 will also have similar layout of buttons and features more similar to a pro camera, if you hope to shoot as a pro one day. the comsumer hd cameras have terrible optics and garbage features... id stay away. if you cant find a prosumer cam used for under 1k id just buy the cheapest mini dv camera i can for 300 bucks or so and then play with it and save up for a used dvx or pd150, or if you line up some gigs get an hvx :)

good luck!
half of the value of this camera the INSANE depth of feild you will get with such a large sensor even if you downconvert off the camera... for doc makers and networks making movies with a decent budget puts the sony f900 in the crosshairs. well see what happens.
looks great for vj sessions or anytime you have to work in the field where its dark. these could work well with people who use laptops in dark theatres or concert halls.
I remember when they announced "sheng long" in sf in 1995 was it? and then being able to play as simon belmont in konamis tmnt game? boy do they know how to break the heart of a teenage geek.

"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
