Windows XP SP3 hits Windows Update, Vista SP1 makes a comeback {Engadget}

May 6th 2008 6:43PM installed on PIII 1GHz laptop. noticably faster... makes it much more bareable.

note: if you have Alcohol 120% installed, running SP3 will complain that it can't copy the atapi file (as a part of the SP3 backup). you can either (1) stop SP3 setup, uninstall Alcohol, run SP3 setup again, then install Alcohol.... or (2) skip the backing up of the atapi file and risk having something screwed up if you 'ever' want to revert to SP2.... I chose the latter... my PIII 1Ghz is my test computer anyway.

So far, so good.

Mar 10th 2008 9:22AM they should put that mac virus built into this so now PC and other mobile devices can have their screen items collapse on them... someone will at least eventually put this into a Eee PC.

Eyes on with T-Mobile's MDA Compact IV {Engadget}

Mar 4th 2008 5:22PM oh referring to my previous comment... it was directed to engadget for their biased reporting rather than to this product.

Eyes on with T-Mobile's MDA Compact IV {Engadget}

Mar 4th 2008 4:50PM funny how engadget doesn't immediately call this as vapourware or blatant copying of the iphone like how engadget always does with Meizu's M8 whenever they show anything short of fully working product (Read: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/04/meizu-m8-mini-one-vs-iphone-fight/)

KDDI touts speedy upgrade to IR transfer technology {Engadget}

Jan 29th 2008 12:43PM well with the advent of multi-touch screen which is likely to integrate some form of IR sensor and emitter, and increase significant increase in transfer speed would open the possiblity to transfering data between devices in contact with the screen. At 1Gbps, true minority report style dragging and dropping image/video/data transfer could be done in a matter of seconds or less... screw other forms of wireless transfers such as bluetooth and wifi... only competitor would then be that wireless USB technology.

Meizu rips off artist to showcase iPhone ripoff {Engadget}

Nov 27th 2007 4:11AM I would say to the artist to not bother with taking legal action. Indeed, the artist does not need to show/prove damages and yes there maybe a possible claim. However, there are two major problems.

(1) Who is the claim against? Unless I have mistaken, nowhere on the Meizu's official website (http://www.meizu.com) does this picture of the M8 with the artist's work appear. From what I can see, the picture was released on a 3rd party website, CNMO.com, who have taken down this picture like 5-6 days ago. The Meizu fansite, Meizume (http://www.meizume.com), merely reposted information just like how Engadget did. So who are you going to sue? Meizu?... no official direct release of the M8 picture. The 3rd party websites (CNMO, MeizuMe, Engadget, etc)?... these websites merely posted the picture (a) for the purposes of reporting of current events and (b) for the purposes of criticism or review. Plus they most likely don't have much money anyway. Not worth suing these 3rd parties.

(2) Assuming the artist has somehow established a claim against Meizu. Meizu has the perfect defence. The picture was not offically published on their website, thus was not intended for the public. The product M8 has not been released, so Meizu could argue that the picture was for research purposes. This would then qualify for the defence "for the purposes of research or private study", in which case the picture was leaked out to the public.

Thus, the artist has no viable claim against Meizu, so all of you can shut the hell up! Got a rebuttal? Make sure you back it up with IP Law.

Meizu M8 MiniOne to debut at CES in January? {Engadget}

Nov 26th 2007 8:54AM Re: iPhone ripoff & Apple legal action
-what part of iPhone design to you see in the M8? get your facts right!
-it's 'similar' to the iPod TOUCH design, but iPod TOUCH isn't a phone, whereas the M8 is a Phone. That's the biggest hurdle for Apple's legal action. How can you sue a phone for looking like an mp3 player?

Re: Windows Mobile sluggishness
-Do your research! M8 runs on Windows CE 6.0. It's not the same as Windows Mobile 6.0 which is based on Windows CE 5. So don't go comparing M8 to other Windows Mobile products.

Re: Multi-touch screen
-those claiming that the lack of multi-touch screen will affect the keyboard obviously have only been playing with older generations touch screens with poorly implemented keyboards. It's all in how the keyboard design is made. Unless you have incredibly fat fingers like Homer, there's not much difference between single-touch and multi-touch screens for keyboard input
-utility of multi-touch screen is still very minimal. only resizing things quickly seems to be of any use. prove me wrong by telling me what ESSENTIAL application is there to multi-touch screens?

Re: Specs
3G - I don't seem to remember that in the iPhone
