SDXC set to blow your mind next year, with 64GB capacity out of the gate {Engadget}

What are you talking about? Human brains don't work like computer memory.

We recreate our memories every time we think of them. That's why courts consider eye-witness one of the worst kind of evidence. All human memories are fabricated and change over time.

It's much more like hallucinating past experiences than reading a disk.

It's like our vision. You think you have HD vision, when in fact only a tiny fraction of your retina has any real density of resolution. Your eye constantly scans a scene and the brain hallucinates the view you perceive.

Quantum dots make for more pleasing LED lamps {Engadget}

May 6th 2009 7:53AM "The dots are microscopic particles that filter light into different colors depending on their size"

Really? I've read that quantum dots are in fact hockey-rink shaped holes. when you dump electrons into them they behave like pseudo atoms. Put 1 electron into a quantum dot and it behaves a lot like hydrogen. Put 6e- in there and it's a pseudo carbon atom.

I would guess that these lights have arrays of a variety of sized holes, and when the array is charged, some holes act like elements that reflect or emit redder or bluer spectrums of light. Think of the different colours that different metals give off when they are burned. The combined effect of these would be a nice wide spectrum light source.

Anyone know for sure?

Panasonic DMC-GH1 Micro Four Thirds shooter with 1080p video landing April 24th {Engadget}

Mar 27th 2009 10:27AM There are many micro-four-thirds lenses coming out, including a 20mm f1.4 pancake lens (~50mm 35mm equivalent)

Traveling with the pancake lens would be perfect for me.

Mar 23rd 2009 12:48PM "it's difficult to coordinate motors that have no mechanical connection to each other"

Really?!? I have a hard time believing that.

I would have figured computers would be very, very good at that.

Intel threatens AMD with termination of x86 license within 60 days {Engadget}

Mar 16th 2009 2:00PM @ Nilay Patel

True, but today the balancing of creative incentives and resulting societal wealth is totally out of whak. I personally think oppressive copyright and patents are why we have only seen phantom GDP increases over the last 30 years.

iMac (early 2009) unboxing and hands-on {Engadget}

Mar 4th 2009 1:56PM That's for 2x4GB sticks.

Those are expensive even at CanadaRAM (currently $950 for 2x4GB)

But the price of 2x4GB will go down extremely fast in the coming months from 3rd party providers.

iMac (early 2009) unboxing and hands-on {Engadget}

Mar 4th 2009 1:52PM I've been using my iMac with a second 24" screen for almost 3 years now.

The DVI port is extremely useful.

I only wish the new iMacs came with both a micro and mini DVI port, for a three screen setup.
