Jun 21st 2008 3:29PM I, eh, I don't agree. This song feels like, to me, the worst use of
irony - justifying a goofy premise with a poor execution, because
hey, they know it's bad so it's alright. You've got lyrics about how
manly and great they are, but hey, it's Weezer, we all know it's
ironic and therefore OK. Also, the lyrics are really bad ('you got
the hots to ride on my plane?') so people who don't really know
Weezer can get in on the joke, that it's ironic. Then, you've got a
mishmash of different musical parts, complete with bad clichés like
sirens, choral arrangement, atonal shouting, and a monologue, all
without any underlying cohesion. The whole thing is a monument to
smarm and ironic indie posturing. It's a joke where the comedy is
supposed to come from the fact that the execution is as poor as the
premise deserves.
If you have a burning desire to listen to joke music, why not get
Tenacious D's first album? The joke there is that the execution is
much better than the goofy premise deserves, which makes for, you
know, listenable music. Or maybe you'd like Tiger Woods by Dan Bern

Jun 21st 2008 1:08AM This. Level design was always one of the hallmarks of Sonic games, and it looks like this new game is leaving it by the wayside. This game could be a step up from the other 3D games, maybe, but the gameplay doesn't look very compelling.

Apr 23rd 2008 2:03AM With all the talk about media streaming, it took me months to realize I could just hook up my external drive (home of all my media anyway) directly to the Xbox, and navigate a fully-controlled file structure with the xbox remote. Seriously, who needs streaming? 500GB media drive FTW.

Apr 21st 2008 9:43PM These microtransactions clumsily shoehorned into games don't make any sense to me.
With modern consoles being internet-enabled, the next step in marketing is to add a real-world shop to games with licensed brands. Playing skate, and like the shoes your avatar is wearing? Add a buy-now interface to the in-game shop screen. Hell, there are dozens of games, especially EA games, that this would work for. They could even set this up themselves, without a storefront. If i could order some of the customizable clothes Rock Band, you can bet I'd consider it. Turning the game into a means to shop could be, in the right context, less annoying than billboard-like visual ads or paying for little game content. Seriously, I'm surprised this hasn't happened already.
