Chinese Blu-ray players revealed at SinoCES {Engadget HD}

Jul 16th 2008 6:08PM If they have Ethernet connections, what else would the corporations need to add to make them 2.0 compliant, internal storage? Anything else? Lower prices will make everyone happy though.

Sharp launches XG-P560W .65-inch 3-chip DLP professional projector {Engadget HD}

May 29th 2008 3:02PM yah, I wouldn't cal this "professional" as much as I would just plain expensive. A real professional projector would be at least HD, feature BNX connectors, and besides RS242 control, would also have some sort of timecode in. A totally professional projector would be at least 2K. Professional this is not.

Barco's DML-1200 DLP projector doubles as concert lighting device {Engadget HD}

May 1st 2008 8:02PM The DL.3 though also has integrated operating (windows unfortunately) but the biggest unmentioned feature would be it's camera. I went to once rave/"mega jam" where they had this multi-thousand dollar moving head projector JUST as a camera. Can your precious barco do that?

DISH Optical Network to bring service to apartments {Engadget HD}

May 1st 2008 7:51PM Yah, this isn't new. My College dorm highrise in downtown Chicago has this, as every now and then the channel will drop and tell me to contact Dish Network. However, I get it just by plugging my TV into the coax as if it were cable. So how is this any different?

HDTV Listings for April 15, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Apr 15th 2008 11:25PM I agree with Andres, while some shots in the Kitchen, specifically the ones from the vent hood cams, aren't HD, anything shot with a shoulder-mounted camera certainly does look HD on my 1080P set.

Survivor meets HDTV for the first time this summer {Engadget HD}

Apr 15th 2008 6:56PM @Kevin: Cost was probably a big issue, but I think logistics were an even bigger concern. Over the past two or three seasons, Survivor has added pinhole cameras throughout the courses, and until really tis year, tiny HD cameras haven't caught on. Now ESPN and FOX use tiny HD cams for racing which can easily be adapted for the harsh Survivor environments. Think of how much money Mark Burnett and CBS has and the relatively low cost of multi-TB RAIDS, that's why I don't think cost was the deciding factor. Either way, bring it on 2009!

Moto shows off new MPEG encoders featuring AFD {Engadget HD}

Apr 15th 2008 2:51AM Saturday Night Live currently does this. If you watch on a SDTV, you get letterboxing, but if you watch on a HDTV, you get the full 16x9 frame, which national NBC by the way looks absolutely gorgeous via OTA for me.

Video: Sony's BDZ-A70 Blu-ray recorder with 1-touch transfer to Walkmans, cellphones, and PSPs {Engadget HD}

Apr 8th 2008 12:12PM Getting back to the topic on hand, what about if you were to export a show or movie to your PSP, then plug it into your computer? Would you be able to transfer that file back off? Also, do we know what for mat it'll be in? Hopefully H.264 and not some proprietary new Sony format cause then I can take that file and put it on my iPhone/Tunes.

DirecTV skips White Sox / Indians game due to "bandwidth constraints" {Engadget HD}

Apr 3rd 2008 10:59PM Figures, the one game the Sox win isn't in HD. At least my local WGN and WCIU broadcast HD over-the-air.

Poll: How long have you been subscribed to pay-HDTV service? {Engadget HD}

Mar 28th 2008 8:29PM OTA in Chicago since I started college again in the fall. Lousy CBS though is broadcast SO low of a frequency, I need to use my building's Dish Network feed for that channel (lot like they provide survivor in HD anyways).
