Then I went to dell.com and started pricing it out and noticed a lot of little things, like super-crappy X3100 onboard video, only 667 memory, only 5400 rpm drives, no built-in wireless, no bluetooth option.
This is supposed to come from laptop parts, right? Why isn't it using the GM45?
The bare minimum for my living room would be $50 to go to the slowest Core 2 Duo(2.0GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache), $30 to go to home premium(media center), $50 for 2GB memory(ever tried vista with only 1GB?!?). That brings the total up to $629.
Wow, an HP a6560t, same price when I add in the 128MB GeForce 9300 (WITH tv tuner) and wireless card. Plus it has a faster processor(2.6Ghz/8000Mhz FSB/2MB cache), 800Mhz memory, 320GB 7200 rpm drive, memory card reader, 7.1ch audio.
It would have been great at the price a couple of years ago, but now it feels highly overpriced and underpowered.

Apr 29th 2008 5:22PM Well, let's look at it this way, the iPhone has a 600 something Mhz processor in it, but has accelerated graphics. It certainly doesn't feel how slow the thing really is.
Maybe they are thinking its time to focus on customer usability/looks rather than horsepower?
After all, things like the Eee are being eaten up and they are so last-last-last generation when it comes to speed.
