I'd love to see a hack where when you hit ff during commericals, the DVR blanks the video output. Then as soon as the thing ends, it wakes it back up..
Yeah, again, I agree..
Every advertising lover or advertising agent on this site is so transparent..
I pay 160/mo for my cable and internet together from comcast.
It's a bit high, but lets say the average is 100 dollars. How many subscribers do they have?
Let me get a calculator out... well, why bother the display is just going to show me that little E...
They can't upstream and support decent programming for the billions they make already? oh, PLEASE.
How about an affordable PVR with standard hookups that records in something better than qcif at 15fps.. and for more than 10 minutes?
*sheesh*
popups: They already sort of do this.. In the middle of shows the bottom 1/4 of the screen is often covered by HUGE ads with super loud noises advertising yet another show I don't care about... a popup if I've ever seen one, soon they'll use this crap for products. The guide on comcast is now cluttered to junk too.. Perm ads on the top and below the channel guide, you can't scroll page to page without "mousing over" the ad.
One word direct reply to the title: GOOD!

I hope they lose more.
I don't care either. It's still an ad that begs "give us your hard earned cash please? We're not rich enough yet" Yeah, well neither am I, I'll keep it thanks.

My name is Jeff..
I guess that makes it two out of several billion.

See where this is going?

Number 3 is just around the corner.

When we get to several billion, they'll take notice.
In general yeah, I think ads have gone insane. I pay so much money for cable, I don't buy this crap that says "Oh without the ads, your shows will disappear" .. Sorry.. doesn't make sense.. as for the ads now, yeah, ad agencies think that if you just put anything in front of a consumer, they'll go for it.. I know several people who will take note of commercials.... if it's advertised, it goes on a list of things to NOT purchase. sure that means you end up with some crappy stuff, but it's worth it knowing you're not supporting the greedmachine.
Yeah, I'm with you FormerDellBob... you can't just erase stigma with a new paint job and some led's...
Infact, I'm almost insulted that Dell tried.

"Dudddeeeee.. ur gettin a case mod!!! ..." Uhmm.. no.
I've been doing the leds in both the expansion bay AND the backplate AND the drive bays for a long time.. okay.. first I started with regular lights then went to ccfl... now led, but the effect is the same. I'm not impressed one bit.. but suck it up dell lovers. Ill stick to my 600 dollar box that looks 1000 dollars better than that... As for CS reps... I've dealt with them one too many times. I won't service a dell calculator/computer unless its out of warranty anymore.. I don't want to have to call that horrid company again.
Oh lord.. when will the Razr die??!?!? I'm so sick of these phones. Just yesterday, someone was trying to compare their Razr to my n95.. can you believe it? When I shot them down, they tried this "yeah, well its better that that one.. (Pointing to my 6682 which is used for my business calls.) Uhhh, no... try again...

Everywhere I go... razr this and krzr that and ... lord Im so sick of those phones. They're no better than those free samsung flips you get from your carrier... Get over it already, they're ugly, poor on features and just plain not worth it.
Oh come on now. If you can't take 5 seconds to mute the microphone when you're done using voice commands you're stupid and deserve it. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with using voice commands.. in fact the whole speech recognition program can be very useful, especially for replying to junk like this. I suppose it's like anything else.. if it's used correctly and configured properly it will be much harder for people to hack or use the features against your will or in an inappropriate manner.

Mitch, you could be right but what is retarded is people find just about any excuse they can to bash Microsoft, even when it's undeserved. Hey I'm no fan of Microsoft, I don't like a lot of their software. It's often slow, bloated and buggy, but for all speech recognition is and isn't they didn't do a half bad job with the speech recognition in vista.

If you're hoping for Hal 9000, recognition that can differentiate between the speaker and background noise, you can forget it for now. Just use some common sense, mute the damn microphone and all will live happily ever after.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
