Unboring, I agree with you. Engadget editors are lazy kids who spend all day playing Xbox. Anyway, I've said this on this site before content shifting is here what you're saying is not revolutionary. If you roll up all the video content you want using Yahoo Pipes, Pull it down to a DLNA capable NAS like Dlink DNS-323 (DLNA is enabled using Twonky) connected to your router on a 1GB ethernet connection, your PS3 which is DLNA capable will pick up any content you're syndicating. Tvtonic and tversity are great for that. I've said it before. Programme guides and IPTV are stupid stuff. The future is RSS Feeds. Only a lateral thinker will get this not a dumb Engadget editor and Apple biggot. In anycase it's here on our PS3. Alright, firmware 2.0 of PS3 will make it accesssible to the common man. RSS is a platform and Yahoo Pipes is an great example of how to use it. http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=AN2vgK8e3BGiaYyXy6ky6g
I really don't see the point of this add-on when you should be aiming to get all your media to a network attached storage. I've got a Dlink-DNS 323 NAS hooked up to my router. It's my iTunes and PS3 media server.

If you download Twonky http://www.twonkyvision.com it enables the NAS to be DLNA capable which the PS3 is. Next thing use Yahoo Pipes to aggreegate all your video/podcast feeds and download them to the NAS using TVTonic. Can't wait for firmware 2.0 which would allow me to subscribe to all my pipes.

I've got two 500GB SATA drives in Raid 1 configuration. I'd rather download content to drives that are not locked to any device than otherwise. Finally Azureus and TVTonic are great for syndicated content as well. Honestly, if anyone is in any doubt. The PS3 a great entertainment centre in your living room. I don't want a plane taking off in my living room (XBox360). Start here if you're interested in the NAS option. http://wiki.dns323.info/ One last thing. Tversity is also great for syndicating content from all your PCs and feeds to the PS3.
Anyone that understands what Howard Stringer's evolving strategy for Sony is should be able to decipher what is happening to Connect.

Here goes.
-Convergence is the name of the game now in Games and Media Content Delivery. Apple, Sony MSSOFT are all doing it.
-Apple ties you up to their store via iTunes a Mac and Apple TV, MS via Zune and XBox Live but neither produce any content.
I think Sony is the smarter company. Think about this, Sony are releasing Internet Video Link to plug on the back of their 2007 Bravia sets which will give these TVs full internet access without a computer.
Which means, RSS is the platform to build your Electronic Programme Guide on not IPTV. It also means Sony can push all their content at you using a standard that is really begging to go mainstream. (At the moment, RSS is a meaningless acronym to Job Bloggs). Besides, computers are too cumbersome to have a place in anyones living room. Think of Joost and TVTonic as two services needing a simple platform like this.

-Connect will roll into Playstation@Network and you'll be able to get access to all of Sony's music and films in your living room via the PS3 or IVL(In IVL's case using RSS maybe Joost and TVTonic as well).
-So tell me folks whos's smarter? The company which sources content from other folks and tethers you to a computer or the one that owns it and delivers it using it's internal value chain.

If I were any of you fanboys, Sony is a buy stock right now. If you stop wearing your North American hat and think like the rest of the world as a whole you'll realise that Sony is a better bet than the other two companies in this area. Apple are actually the weakest. How many homes in Asia or Africa have ever heard of Apple?

Heck, MS and Apple always want me to use a computer with Sony I don't need one if you have a PS3 or IVL. Good job Sony, I'll be buying more shares today!! There is a paradigm shift going on and very few people actually understand it.

Then again, what fanboy knows anything beyond what he reads on a blog or what his friend told him?
Typos !! inability of a couscous infected brain seeing beyond SJ's underpants !
Apple fanboys/trolls always need to compare everything with Apple because they suffer from acute paradigm intelligence. The inability for a coucous infected brain to see beyond SJ's underwear. Spend more time checking things out before comparing Apple with anything. I like and use Apple products. I dislike the way Apple fanboys make a fool of themselves.
The Apple TV is boring technology. It's stupidly tethered to iTunes a computer and the iTunes store. Who needs all that crap. The world of entertainment will is being built on RSS and you're all going gaga over this peice of crap. The future of TV and entertainment of the web is going to be built on RSS Channels not some silly IP TV crap. Anyone that's been using the PSP for a while to stream podcast and download video will know this already.

When the next Major PS3 firmware updates rolls out, RSS will become the platform that future media will be built on. I seem to recall that it does 1080p. Then you can use Yahoo Pipes to roll your own TV channel. The days of EPG and IPTV are long gone. I've seen the future and it's not what you all think. The Cable and Satelite guys are in trouble. They know it. Apple's paradigm is transient. It's no different from the cable guys. Media shifting is where it's at.
So, you lot in North America are waving the flag as usual for your hommie Xbox360! (Alright, not all of you are that blind). Secondly, all the games you're screaming about on the 360 are typical first person shooters, masculine gruntfest that the Xbox is famous for. Sometimes, I wonder if this has something to do with war mongering. In any case, I'd hate to pack my living room with a lot of crap add-ons when I can get a single console that can do everything. Not forgetting that very soon, you'll need that HD-Drive when games developers run out of space on standard DVD. I guess we can always look forward to Xbox Extra Extra Elite. As for moi, I'll be loving my PS3 five years later, with games that go beyond masculine gruntfest. Meanwhile, you're waiting for Gears of War HD on your new Extra, Extra Elite. If only you could bring yourself to admit that because, you can't afford it, you slag it off. PS3 it is for moi. I guess Asia and Europe will say amen to that.
Boring, I've been using the X-Series on the 3 3G network in the UK since last year on a Nokia E61. 3 use a local mobile number they call "Skpe Service" to recieve and make calls from Skype. Me think it's the best mobile tarriff anywhere in the world since for £5.00 flat fee you get broadband tariff on the move. Don't even need to burn your Skype Out/In credit if your're smart. I've got a UK 0870 number that gives me kickback routing through Skype to my E61 on 3. Sweet! Not sure this is useful in Europe at all. If you're interested in finding out the joys of using the E61 Nokia and all X Series on 3 follow these two links. http://www.e-series.org/archives/242 and http://www.three.co.uk/xseries/index.omp
Yeah right, which games publisher in their right mind will ask anyone to download a 50GIG game not even with a 4Mbits per second broadband connection. You must be having a laugh. So it's a state of denial now.
? Fact is who needs a 80GB drive when your PS3 manual tells you how to upgrade your drive to a bigger one. Media isn't dead it's the Xbox that's a dodo elsewhere maybe alive and kicking in NA. Sick as a parrot rest of the world. Something called the world series comes to mind only played in the US.
All you Xbox fan boys are mugs. Typical lifespan of a console is 10 years hardly into it's second year, you're being mugged for more money and yet you squeal that PS3 is expensive. Fact is MSOFT is busy R&Ding away trying to match PS3 form factor and features and you "cheapos" that claim you have no money are able to buy new ones. What next Xbox Ultimate with BlueRay drive when they run out of encryption algorithms for all those HD games? Perhaps that's why we in Europe can't be fooled by all this stupid confusing skus. What's it called again? Elite? more like Xbox 360 Dumbo !!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I want a 13-incher. I need something with a great keyboard for typing, as this will mostly be used for note taking in class. I am absolutely smitten with the XPS 13, but I'm afraid that with its age Dell is going to give it an update soon. Any advice for someone in my shoes?"
