Would be nice to get away from the universal remote having to manage state of devices. WAF takes a huge hit when the A/V components go rogue.

Downside is that it would be another new technology requiring all A/V components to be replaced.

Registering a certificate with the cable co works for cable modems (MAC address).

Rising unemployment likely drives some of the demand for cable.

Would have been nice to see a bullet point for Windows Media Extender. That would have added to the "Live HD" theme with live TV / DVR.

$9.95 / mo (Tuner + CableCARD)?

Cable companies should offer this as an alternative to the STB for those technically able and interested in distributed media.

That would please their technically inclined customers and probably cost less than a STB (when purchased in bulk).

This would have been a good gadget to integrate a media center extender. Would have added more justification to that $250.

Is Toshiba still planning media center extenders?...

Microsoft is re-organizing to get xbox, zune, and media center under one team. There is plenty of room to improve interoperability.

AM/FM radio can coexist with ipod. Why should broadcast TV be different?

Microsoft should focus less on Apple and more on resolving their internally competing media platforms -- zune, xbox, media center.
