Apr 12th 2007 5:33PM It looks like the exploding Macbook cake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgBHI5xt7Yk) that I made for the Engadget birthday cake contest was relevent after all--there have been a bunch of articles about exploding Apple products since the contest ended.

I decided to post a video of the detonation of my creation at Google Video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-369196843835058102. Having the opportunity to make this cake was a godsend as it kept me sane through a family emergency. One of my immediate family members became critically ill on Tuesday, but I couldn't fly to visit her until the next day. I chose to distract myself by making the cake on Tuesday night. Making pyrotechnic cakes could be a legitimate form of therapy--I wonder what Dr. Phil would think about that?
I can't wait to see the results of this year's cake contest--there's bound to be some really good ones this year.

Mar 17th 2007 3:12PM Hah! I didn't think I'd be the only one to come up with that idea (I think that's called convergent evolution). It was fairly low tech: I basically stuffed a cake with smoke bombs and a few sparklers.
Post some pictures of you're creation--I'm interested in seeing it!
P.S. Were we supposed to get a confirmation email if we sent our submission via an email listed above?
