Ricoh's 28mm GR Digital II camera gets reviewed {Engadget}

Apr 30th 2008 10:11PM A Cannon SD870 pwns this thing. It's smaller, has a 28mm lens, and much better low-light performance.

Throw CHDK on it, and it shoots RAW, can run custom scripts (such as motion detection... etc.) - and has generally has features that would make this camera wet its pants.

Oh... and it costs half as much.

You're welcome.

A Couple of My Rules for Startups {Blog Maverick}

Good luck recruiting talent in the middle of imbredland.

10-year ban for popping a wheelie in Miami {Autoblog}

Nov 28th 2007 4:05PM To the above person:

"All rights not expressly allowed the government belong to the PEOPLE. That means driving *IS* a right."

You have a right to drive, sure... just not on the roads that the government provides. Nobody is going to take away your right to drive your car back and forth in the driveway - but once you get onto public roads you don't have a god-given right to drive on them.

T-Mobile Shadow unboxed, still not released {Engadget}

Oct 1st 2007 10:13AM What OS does it run? WM like the Dash? I had a dash for a while, but the OS sucked so bad I ditched it and went back to my Symbian UIQ3 phone (SE P990i)

I would rather disembowel myself with a rusty dull pocket knife than use a Winblows Mobile device again.

Spherical speaker array provides blaring ball of sound {Engadget}

May 7th 2007 12:48AM Actually- it's not a spherical sound source. It's a ball with a bunch of speaker cones on it. This particular configuration is less effecient at approximating a spherical source of sound than a regular geometric configuration.

See: H. Smith, T. W. Leishman, “Numerical evaluation of the omnidirectional behavior of regular polyhedron loudspeakers,” J. Acoust. Soc. Am., 115, (5), p. 2525.

Build your own laptop battery... or not {Engadget}

Mar 27th 2007 1:39AM "we're not sure how good an idea it is to attempt to build your own"

2 years ago you seemed to think it was a good idea.

Maybe you should read your own blog.

Linux users tell Ballmer to put his code where his mouth is {Engadget}

Feb 26th 2007 9:03AM It's not "Show us UR code" - the group isn't asking to see any proprietary Microsoft code. What it's asking for is for Microsoft to "Show us in our code where we infringe your code" - but I guess that would be kind of hard to put on top of a picture of Ballmer.

The iPhone is not a smartphone {Engadget}

Jan 10th 2007 1:14AM @mike: "How do you know it won't run OS X software?"

Unless that phone has a PowerPC processor or an Intel x86 processor in it, I can personally guarantee you it will not be able to run OS X apps without being recompiled.
