@roole

Actually it does, he'll need to start saving if he wants a career in digital art. He may as well give back his parents back the money for his laptop and the money for his degree.
@roole

If he's struggling after he bought a macbook pro, you can be pretty much assured that either 1) he is in credit card debt or 2) borderline debt where revenues < expenses.

Last I checked, having little to no savings and being one paycheck or financial aid disbursement away from having debt is not any better than being in debt. It's about the same.

In short, it's a minor technicality, just how the unemployment rate doesn't take in the account the people who have stopped looking for a job.

I hope that clears it up for you.

If you're struggling, why did you buy a macbook pro? I don't mean to flame, but do you really need a macbook pro to get through school? There's a reason why I see all those listings on craigslist of people selling their new macs because they couldn't afford them and need to pay rent for next month. Don't buy things you can't afford, save money instead. I know it sounds like words from a condescending jackass, but I was in college not too long ago. Hell, I graduated in January of this year and I'm telling you that debt is not going to get any easier to pay off once you get out of college (unless your parents are paying for tuition). I landed in a great job, but I was really bracing for the worst.

If you're really struggling, sell the mac and buy a cheaper or used laptop. There is no reason to put yourself in debt just to buy a new computer.
I don't see any universities or businesses dropping Windows for anything in the long term. Why you ask? It's the infrastructure stupid! Whether you admit it or not, Apple doesn't have a great server product for the enterprise. Active Directory > Open Directory. Why you ask? Because I can designate trees and child domains for separate entities. Open Directory doesn't even have the concept of a tree.

Group Policy is vastly superior on Windows. If I want flexibility with my machines in establishing policy, I want Windows. Every copy of Windows comes with Remote Desktop built in which is better than Screen Sharing. (I will say that Apple Remote Desktop is a very nice management console, but it isn't available anywhere unless I break down and buy the licenses for each machine I support when I'm walking around.)

On another note, Apple tends to break support with legacy devices constantly. Look at the x-raid, they don't produce it anymore, looks like I'm SOL when that x-raid in the server rack dies.

Apple and Microsoft target 2 complete different markets. A lot of the imacs that we setup also run Windows because that's what everything runs on. This trend will continue because companies like Dell and HP understand that downtime is lost productivity. With Apple, you only have two options (you bring it into them, or you wait for a part from Apple GSX). Dell on the other hand will send out a tech or send out the part that will arrive the next day. If I don't have time to swap a part out because I have to setup a switch, then at least I know I have the flexibility to let someone else take care of it onsite. Support is the reason why companies won't go with Apple, because companies value their time. That isn't going to change soon if ever because it is more profitable to Apple to deny claims of damage and tell you to buy a new part.

Microsoft won this battle a long time ago, Microsoft controls office productivity and can cripple osx versions at any time. Doesn't make your mac much of an advantage when you have to run windows to get things done does it?
@Zeus

SLI = GIMMICK

Basically Nvidia is trying to cash on a gimmick catered to enthusiasts who have a lot of disposable income and not much money sense.

SLI is a good example of "decreasing returns to scale" because I'm not getting 100% of the 2nd card nor even 50% if I'm lucky. For each card I add in an SLI matrix, I get less and less added performance. You can analogize this to decreasing marginal utility as a company hires one more worker to increase productivity till the point no more productivity can be made.

While all that economics theory is well and good, analyzing the cost & benefit of a SLI setup gives you very little utility for the amount of income you give up.

This is why I advocate people spend their money elsewhere. I use to be way into pc gaming, but today I rarely game at all because most people can't make a living doing it & it's such a waste of time.

Would you rather be making over 40,000 (at least) or more and have the ability to live life on a comfortable scale or be in the basement playing WoW while working at walmart on the weekends?

Gaming is overrated.
@Zeus

When you say your occupation is with computers, do you work for geek squad or something? or maybe you work with firedog.

Either way degrees from ITT Tech suck bro.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
