the Ion netbooks are still hindered by awful Atom cpu's, lack of RAM and other features. I still have yet to see anything that beats the Acer Aspire TImeline 1810TZ for the features and money.
@ridata

I think it falls more in the ultraportable range of notebooks than it does the "netbook" class. Netbooks are very limited by what they can do
@ridata

This is not a netbook. I own one. 11.6" LED Display, CULV Processor (Not that Atom crap), Intel 4500MHD, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Full-Size Keyboard, Multitouch trackpad, Webcam, HDMI Port, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Wireless-N, 5-in-1 Card Reader, Stereo Speakers, Windows 7......

This is the closest thing you can get to a netbook.....but with notebook performance. The Acer Timeline 1810TZ is the best bang for the buck in terms of features and performance. I was going to get an HP Mini 311.....but by the time I added wireless-n, bluetooth, the faster crappy atom processor, 2gb ram from 1gb default and 250GB HD from 160GB default.....oh and $50 for Windows 7 Upgrade.....I was still paying more than this thing....all while still having a smaller keyboard, a worse trackpad and worse screen on the hp mini 311....oh not to mention heavier.
@Fanfoot

It runs 720p and 1080p and hulu/ HQ YouTube without a hitch thanks to the CULV and thats all I really care about. I don't see the appeal of gaming on an 11.6" notebook, but understand the desire for some other people. I whip out the 15" MacBook Pro w/ bootcamp if I want portable gaming. General purpose use, and multitasking is more important to me...and the ION GPU does nothing to help the slow Atom CPU on that front.
@Luke
Yes it has an HDMI port....and a 5-in-1 Card Reader slot.
@CoreyMac

Oh you meant the actual lid not the screen....Also glossy. lol. But I have the blue one (very nice dark navy blue) So it hides fingerprints a bit better than the black
@Certifiedfryguy

Its glossy...which may be the only turnoff for some users....but with a portable like this Its very easy to reposition yourself from any glare....and the display goes very far back in adjustability, much like the new macbook pro's
@CoreyMac

I Almost bought a HP Mini 311 for $450ish after upping the ram to 2GB.....thank god I kept researching and found the Acer baby for only $100 more.
The Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ is the best 11.6" notebook you can get on the market for the price ($549). has a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo SU7300, 3GB RAM, 320GB HD, Wireless-N, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Multitouch trackpad, Full size keyboard, Webcam etc in a netbook form factor
@(Unverified)

Actually after you pay tax......$249 is looking like $300.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
