You could just install the RTM without a key and activate at GA in October. You'll need to use the "rearm" trick (search for rearm) to extend the activation a couple of times.
Ehh, they still die too quickly. My Canon's battery pack lasts for at least 250 shots if I don't use the flash. And if I'm taking pics outdoors, I probably won't use the flash. Nevertheless, it's only my opinion.
Noooooo... cameras tend to eat batteries - I'd take the battery pack any day! (If I need more power, I'd just get another pack)
