So naughty it's not even funny...
It will not stop people who want it from getting it.
I never realized I was locked to one console! Silly me!

Previously I believed I could chose between three consoles... that were competing for my money...

But unfortunately, in the near future, you are absolutely right. IMO I feel there is competition out there that will drive the price down sooner than you would tend to believe.
@nukee

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edible

For something to be edible, we must also derive something of nutritional value from it, by definition. Too many people make this mistake.

We are incapable of deriving any energy from cellulose, therefore it is not edible.
You're right man I mean the costs of...

Creating:
-Game boxes
-Manuals
-Disks
-Shrinkwrapping
-Various anti-shoplifting measures in the case

Shipping:
-From Mexico or China
-To a shipping company
-To a store
-Driving to and from the store to get the game yourself

(Might I mention by this time the game is already on bittorrent...)

Don't forget, these stores need a profit too. Adds to the cost. And all the bastard 13 year olds I see stealing the games at Best Buy which directly translates into... More costs!... AND a sales tax...

But you're right. These things probably don't add up to much anyways! In fact, you'd probably have to pay some ridiculous tax just like every time I buy something onlin- Oh wait...
You know what's even better? No plastic.

Cmon guys, lets make digital distribution more available on consoles and allow the price to reflect it's true cost.
@kakairo

No, paper is not edible. It is mainly composed of cellulose. Humans cannot digest cellulose. Therefore it is not edible.

...There will be that guy who reads your comment and eats a pound of paper. You watch.
Yeah I already picked up Dragon Age and L4D2 at Best Buy on Friday. Bought it in New Hampshire so no sales tax either.
I'm not a PS3 owner.

But this is EXACTLY why I want the PSN to overtake XBL. The gold membership cost used to be justified as little as 2-3 years ago. I really want Sony to knock some sense into MS.

As a live subscriber, it's time I get my moneys worth. Give me more for my money, or make it free.
Not a PS3 owner here. But for what it's worth... Considering how much it costs to own a PS3 vs. a 360 now, I could care less now than ever.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
