That date headline is locale dependant!
Well its not just a usb cable, its a bridged usb cable, theres some electronics in the middle that handle the data exchange. Basically it looks like a usb device to both pcs.

You can get usb cables with just the pc connector at both ends and no electronics in the middle, but if you plug two pcs together with one of these you will most likely damage the usb ports.

The wiimote has both a crude ir camera based positional detector, and motion sensor accelerometers in both the main wiimote and nunchuck. It depends on the game which aspects are used, e.g. fps games use the camera based method to control a reticle, the wii sports tennis game uses the accelermoters.
Maybe they're using e-ink for the keys instead of OLED, given that it only requires power for image change + very high DPI it would be a more practical tech for a device like this.

Depsite much improvements over the past couple of years, color OLEDS just dont have the life time required for device that is on for a LONG time, such as a keyboard. As it is, i suspect they'll still have to have the keyboard 'power down' if not used for a few minutes to extend the typical use life to past a year.

I also wouldn't be suprised if they are using oleds that the two tone is not black and white, more likely yellow and black, as yellow oleds have the best lifetime currently.
Slick interface, but like others have said i don't think i can go back using an up/down button to navigate through 1000's of songs after using a scroll wheel.

The scroll wheel like appearance kinda is kinda deceiving, maybe they expect to rend the patent off apple sometime in the future and keep the same design...

Although its a 500mhz AMD processor, its most probably one of AMDS Alchemy line of processors, which are an evolution of the MIPS core, i.e. non x86.

These processors are similar to the ARMs, in their low power use.

Theres a couple of versions shown, the http://news.com.com/2300-1044_3-6046778-4.html?tag=ne.gall.pg one looks better.

However, the 3 hour battery life is awful but expected given its running an x86 processor. Under $1000 will most likely translate into $999, so far to expensive.

Not impressed at all.
damn the videos gone, anyone grab it? stick on youtube/google or something =P
They've just done the second one as well, no translation yet tho..

The device looks quite large really, about an 8" display, halfway between a pda and a tablet pc.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
