I am a huge fan of the Ipod and Itunes and have enjoyed both a great deal over the past few years. However times change and the potential integration of this player with the music store, OS, media player, Xbox and Xbox live is too compelling to ignore. I will likely buy one the first week and switch over. They will have to earn my loyalty beyond that or I would switch back.
I bought a Samsung Q1 on the first day of availability and the detractors are completely and utterly wrong, the thing is the perfect traveling PC and the ability to all the media stuff is icing on the cake.

Could the bettery life be better? Certainly. I get maybe 2.5 to 3 hours at best, but then other than a flight I am rarely away from an outlet for that long.

MS did an excellent job with the applications and settings for XP Tablet to make the use of the OS on a small screen better. Movies look great on this thing.

Did I pay about 20-25% too much for it? Probably...but $1100 is just not that much money to me.

This thing will not be heading for my "tech retirement closet" anytime soon. Very useful and entertaining product.

Man we have become so politically correct that any humor at the expense of anyone (except perhaps white and western folk) is jumped on by the myriads of keyboard jockies shouting racist or snob. I found nothing offensive about this or racist. There are relative backwaters all over the world, be it Senegal, Guyana, Belize or Easter Island. Simply pointing out the differences and getting a bit nostalgic about it is fine.

I really hate PC-ness can you tell?
How about the also install a rootkit?
Yeah Japan was such a good world citizen at the time. Laying waste to China was really a misunderstanding. Hirohito should have been hung at Trial and not allowed to remain as a Constitutional Monarch.
The Itunes model is so much better IMHO, not to mention the fact that the store/software and player are so well integrated. It would be very hard to tempt me to move elsewhere.

I think the fans of the rental model are only those that have the desire to/have the time to sample lots and lots of different music on a monthly basis, enjoy it and then move on.

I listen to really only three genres of music (Classical, Contemporary Christian and Folk) and the amount of new music that I listen to is like 1-2 songs per month at best. Once I purchased my favorites library from Apple, its a trickle of business for them from then on.

I am willing to bet there are a lot more music consumers out there like me, then the very active rental model types.
All I'd like to know is how many salmon fillets, veggie burgers and or grilled cheese sandwiches can that thing do at once?
I don't buy the concept at all. Here's a sure way to extend the life of your 360 forever...(Well at least a couple of hundred years...you can pass it down to your ancestors)

...Don't ever turn it on or use is! Just think of the secure feeling of seeing that little CE hotrod on your entertainment center in the year 2014 or maybe even 2036. Yeah that's right you'd be the smart one and could laugh at all the other senior citizens that fried their 360s decades ago.

Guys these things are cheap. If it breaks buy another one.

No kidding #6. You don't need thise PC to work in Kiosks and compared to Negroponte's PC it is a lot more expensive.

Media Center is a great interface an alternative to the pay as you go PVR solutions. It combined with a home network and Xbox 360 is the most serious threat yet to my desire to not become a couch potato
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
