Sony Reader goes open, will be able to work with other booksellers {Engadget}

Jul 24th 2008 10:44AM @ Eric H: I actually own one and am constantly pleased at how well it does what it was built to do, display books.

While there is a notable refresh, I find it's similar to or shorter than actually turning a page; it's hardly a wait, or killer for that matter, not even while reading 150MB PDF casebooks.

That said, the one thing this device had really fallen behind on is the e-book store, which is archaic and cumbersome, but most of all made me want to do for only working with Windows.

Now that this update is out, I'm happier, but wary. I'm happy for obvious reasons in that I can buy anything I want now; but I'm wary because it's almost a white flag saying they're just not pushing for it.

We'll see.

iPhone 101: Geocaching with an iPhone 3G {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 19th 2008 2:53PM I really want to thank you for writing this article. Geocaching is one of the main reasons why I am justifying a 3G, whose additional capabilities are less important to me a compared to the original iPhone with 2.0 software.

For those of you who've never done it, Geocaching is one of the most fun little adventures you can go on. It's like a treasure hunt for tech-geeks.

Of course, you also have to dig being outdoors and hiking (unless it's an Urban Cache); but that's part of what's so great about it: you still get to play with gadgets, only you're getting the exercise and fulfillment you would have otherwise forewent if you stayed inside.

Again, thanks for this post.

Save Arecibo: because aliens don't do voicemail {Engadget}

Jul 7th 2008 5:19PM You people do realize I was referring to the lackluster car services, not the observatory, right?

I've already written my letter!

Save Arecibo: because aliens don't do voicemail {Engadget}

Jul 7th 2008 12:48PM Arecibo is also the name of the car service I would often use when stranded in Brooklyn. Them and Eastern.

But I would be hard pressed to write anything positive about them, let alone aid in their salvation.

Woz: How it all began {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 22nd 2008 5:23AM Actually, when adjusted for inflation his salary was slightly better than what Apple engineers make today: approx. $89,000.

See: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/06/10/at-glassdoor-find-out-how-much-people-really-make-at-google-microsoft-yahoo-and-everywhere-else/

24,000 1976 dollars is equivalent to about 92,500 of today's dollars.

See: http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html

Needless to say, Steve was doing just fine.

Shenzhen EM-2811 "Latte ICE" is actually kind of neat {Engadget}

Jun 22nd 2008 5:14AM ...And for those sharp-eyed readers, note my malfunctioning letter "s".

Really, it sticks.

Shenzhen EM-2811 "Latte ICE" is actually kind of neat {Engadget}

Jun 22nd 2008 5:05AM Once again the lightening rod that is irony strikes again as our good friend KilgoreTrout attempts to berate Engadget for its poor spelling while he (or she) is unable to construct a proper sentence.

I think what you were trying to say was, "Jeez what kind of crap is engadget reduced to review[ing] now?"

In the meantime, we'll all ignore the relative nonexistence of the word "jeez," as well a the failure to capitalize "Engadget."

That said, I realize comments are not necessarily held to the same journalistic standard as a fairly large publication as Engadget is; but religious though I am not, there is certainly some merit to "let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone."

Shenzhen EM-2811 "Latte ICE" is actually kind of neat {Engadget}

Jun 21st 2008 1:13PM Er, I'm guessing it just means it sees itself as more of a hobby, and doesn't actually make money doing what it does.
