Let's be honest here.

Microsoft doesn't really care if you pirate their software.

Enough people buy it to keep it running.

Piracy = dependence and spread of Windows.
A "race to the bottom"? What kind of term is that?
Yeah, who could possibly want affordable, ultra small PC's? Why would we want everyone to have a subnotebook that they could carry everywhere?

The problem here is that across the board, everything Sony makes is downright expensive. Is their stuff typically very high quality? Of course. Is it within everyone's price range? Of course not.

What he fails to understand is that the emerging subnotebook niche is not necessarily a replacement to full sized notebooks, but instead perhaps a supplement.

In economics, time and time again, a pattern is always seen: companies either adapt to the market and flourish or become so obsessed with their own agenda that they forget the consumer.

Programs written for Mac or Windows will not run.

Jesus. Christ.

IT RUNS LINUX, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

Just like the first person said, it's not intended to run Crysis.

They diss it for not having a 56k modem because this alienates the low end crowd. I actually agree with this.

But then, they come back and then they're mad that it doesn't support resolutions greater than 1280x800 because of integrated graphics. It's not EVERYONE'S PC, it's targeted at a niche market.

It would be like giving the Asus eee a bad review for its screen size and "toy-like" weight.

Don't be blown away by the PS3's 8 processors- it's a lot of power, but there's a lot of optimization work that has to go into it because it's such a crazy, unique architecture.

Also, don't think that 8 processors immediately blows away everything else- what they won't tell you is that the setup is one powerful processor and basically 7 weak ones.

The 360's cores are evenly balanced - 3 3.2gHz cores.

The Wii, on the other hand, is about 700 odd megahertz. Sure, that's not a lot, but everybit helps, and with as many users as the Wii has, it would be a huge help to the project.

I think it's time for the companies to tear down the competitive walls and work together.
Seriously, buy a PSP. You can't beat fullspeed NES, SNES, PS1, GBA, Gameboy Color, Genesis, and lots lots more.
What's the gameplay style like for these games?
thatpspkid: it's likely that as long as firmware is still decrypted and Dark_Alex and crew are still interested, OE firmwares will still continue to be pumped out.
Very nice. I'm excited about Sony finally taking the PSP a LITTLE more seriously.

Yup, it's true.

It's a beta build that PSPHackingGod got.

It's an emulator by Brunni, MMSPlus, that was updated to support Gameboy games. It can feature recoloring and stuff through the use of config files.

Keep on the lookout. It probably won't be release anytime soon because as I hear it, Brunni likes to finetune until things are more ready to go.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
