Olympics viewership through the roof, HDTV / internet to thank? {Engadget HD}
Aug 12th 2008 12:34PM XDragon, its not showboating or anything. Phelps roared like that in the 2004 games. It's also got nothing to do with what the French said, although that made it all the sweeter. It was a close race, the most exciting race of all time. AND, it wasn't Phelps who was most responsible for the win.
There's also the commentators. They didn't belittle anyone. All they did was report what the French had said. That's what they always do.
Frankly, even without the French comment, the reaction from the American team would have been the same after such a race. You don't think the French would have done the same if they had won in the same fashion after the Americans had said that about them? Hell, you could put the comment aside and they would have done the same thing.
All in all, the French talked smack at the worst venue. Of all the competitive events not to say such things, its the Olympic games. It's just bad form and bad sportsmanship. If anyone is a disappointment, its the French.
NBC Olympics on the Go adds 64-bit Vista Media Center support {Engadget HD}
Aug 9th 2008 10:20PM This is major for me. This is one of the things that if there wasn't a 64-bit version, I wouldn't move to Vista 64 bit. A major hurdle has been cleared for me.
Beep beep -- Sprint's looking to offload iDEN network? {Engadget}
Aug 9th 2008 12:54PM You couldn't have said it any better, word for word. Even the thing about NYC. Sprint are absolute morons for sitting on their purchase and doing nothing with it.
Poll: Did you purchase an HD DVD player post-format war? {Engadget HD}
Aug 9th 2008 12:48PM Hell, 5.1 isn't used as much as it should be. I see more and better use of surround sound from modern video games that I'll ever see from movies.
Poll: Did you purchase an HD DVD player post-format war? {Engadget HD}
Aug 9th 2008 12:45PM I steered clear when it was still called AOD.
DISH offers Interactive TV mosaic for Olympics overload {Engadget HD}
Aug 8th 2008 6:08PM I remember they did this last time. I had Dish then and it was a great way to watch. I wish VMC had PiP, we could do the same ourselves, anytime, any provider.
Hands-on with the Vista Media Center TV Pack {Engadget HD}
Aug 6th 2008 5:31PM I'm sure this goes for many of us here........
THANK YOU!
Blu-ray releases on August 5th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Aug 4th 2008 11:41AM Compared to last week, or any of other time in recent memory (past few months or so) this is one of the slowest release weeks. Save for the original Starship Troopers (still gonna buy it), whose popularity is suspect at best, don't expect good numbers from this release week.
But the virtual treasure trove from last week should make for a positive upturn. It just goes to show, sales are dependent on the titles released, and nothing else.
NBC Olympics on the Go hears the starting rifle, goes live {Engadget HD}
Aug 2nd 2008 10:54AM You cared enough to post.
And besides, you're a Mac guy, you're supposed to be used to this.
NBC Olympics on the Go hears the starting rifle, goes live {Engadget HD}
Aug 2nd 2008 8:54AM I've been using TVTonic for some time as a way to automate downloading and watching my favorite video podcasts, most of which were already on the default guide to pick from. And even if they weren't, it was easy to add.
But this new version is so much better. It looks great, its more responsive, and there's more control over whats going on.
I also like the watch the Olympic games, and this makes it easy for me to catch whatever I missed. But if you're into watch video podcasts, for example the stuff on Revision 3, or The 1UP Show for the gamers here, or just so many other great vidcasts, this is the best way to download and watch them bar none.
My only gripe is that there is no Vista 64 support. As time goes on, I have less and less of a reason to stick to Vista 32bit, but if the only reason that remains is because of TVTonic, I'll gladly stay with 32bit just for this. Its that good. I can't live without it now.
