@DarCowAlways
Actually, Jesus, the son, doesn't know, God the Father does.

Anyway.... could be a reference to the Alien Invasion starting according to the X-Files. Maybe the LHC is what draws the attention of the aliens? Quick! Before they discover FTL Travel and the secret to the Perfect Waffle Recipe!!!
LAME!!!!

I will definatly admit to being an Apple fanboy, but I really hope there is a good excuse. Web-apps are lame, and I really don't feel like voiding my warrenty to get applications. For crying out loud, they announced they were going to release the thing, and now they give us a 'road map'??

I liked Apple better when they only talked about products that were already shipping from their warehouse...
It sounds more to me like someone, somewhere along the line, picked up one thing a person said and blew it up.

Real Conversation:
Reporter: "So, how are sales of CS 3?"
Adobe: "Sales have been phenominal! We've been able to break into new markets-"
Reporter: "Great.. Great. So, what about the iPhone?"
Adobe: "Um... we don't have anything to do with the iPhone. We like it and all-"
Reporter: "Super. How about Apple's new OS?"
Adobe: "We love it so far! We haven't recieved a final copy yet-"
Reporter: "So, you're apps COULD break under the new OS?"
Adobe: "Well, as I said, we haven't fully tested it-"
Reporter: "So, if I upgrade, my Copy of Photoshop WON'T WORK????"
Adobe: "If there's any problems, we'll fix it as fast as we can..."
Reporter: "Front Page!!! Adobe apps won't work with Apple's new OS!!!"
Adobe: "That's not exactually what I said -"
Adobe: "Hello? Hello?"
NOW does everybody understand why Apple generally waits until they have a product complete until they deliver it??
I'm not saying that Developers don't benifit, but those that are listed were never targeted at Developers. When was the last time Steve introduced a new OS and said "Here's the technical things that you programmers can do!"?? The ONLY time I can remember Steve getting really technical at WWDC is during the Intel announcement, otherwise he's all about making the same kind of show that he does at MacWorld.

The Stevenote at the Developer's conference is, really, just another Apple press conference. The REAL Developer stuff goes on during the sessions.

Besides, what, of Apple's products, can you point to and say "This is NOT a developer's annonucement!" iPod? Lots of people develop for the iPod. iLife? Talk about iLife integration with your apps. iMac? Macbook? Mac mini? Most Apple developers don't code on "Pro" machines.

I think Apple has realized the line has blurred between "Developer" and it's audience base. Look at the sessions, they not even all Application Development based!! "Developer" has come to mean anyone who creates for the Mac or using the Mac (i.e. content).
"When was the last time Apple announced its consumer products at a _developers_ conference? Right. Do your homework and next time check wikipedia at least."
Hmmm...Well, let's see......(checking Wikipedia)2006: Mac Pro, introduced OS X.5
2005: Intel Announcement
2004: New Displays, OS X.4
2003: Powermac G5, "iApps", iSight

Even Wikipedia says that Apple deviated, starting in 2002, from not using WWDC to put out new hardware. So, YES these are within the realm of possibility.
Probable? I doubt it... but then again I've learned to never say "Apple will never..." (except when it comes to PDAs, though the iPhone is pretty close...).
"Al Gore comes out on stage and declares he's running for president. Every other democratic candidate promptly withdrawls."

As a Republican, I fully support that.

Anyway, I kinda doubt we're going to see anything that we didn't already know about.
@Brandson

In today's world, Laptops are becoming desktop replacements, and the UMPC becomes the Laptop replacement. In other words, It's really about the portability of information on a mobile computer. My laptop is connected to an external monitor, an external disk drive and an external keyboard/mouse. I don't have a 'desktop' anymore. However, it gets tiresome connecting/unconnecting everything when I just want to have a computer with me when I go to a meeting, or go to Starbucks, or just want to surf the web in the living room instead of the office, or want to do simple Desktop tasks (that I would normally have the freedom to do on my laptop) without unhooking everything. Lazy? Partly, but it's a question of productivity and time (especially when you're working with 12 different apps open, then have to shut them down, eject all devices, set the screen back, unplug all devices and everything else, just to go to a half hour meeting where you need a electronic copy of a word document. The other part comes from having the package in a small, lite package that I don't need to carry a backpack for.
Sorry to gripe about pricing, but a year ago we were all disappointed by the pricing. Intel came out and basically said "Prices are in the $1000 range now, but they'll be half that in a year."

Well, as Engadget pointed out, it's the 1 year anniversary, and still the lowest price UMPC is $899.

I'm not expecting a $300-400 model, but how about at least a nice $600 model? For the price of the current UMPCs I can get a full Tablet PC!!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
