I wouldn't be so optimistic about this news...MacNN is sourcing the newspaper "Metro" for this news. For those not in the area, "Metro" is the free "throw-away" news paper that you get at Septa train stations, and they're not even close to being a legitimate news source. If the Philadelphia Inquirer or the Courier Times wrote about this, then I would feel more optimistic.

Hopefully though this does happen b/c Philly desperately needs an Apple Store.
I've had an early 07 Core2Duo iMac, and before Snow Leopard came out, I actually preferred the Win7 RC running on BootCamp over Leopard. Everything was just much more responsive and did not lag as much as it did with leopard. However, I do prefer 10.6 over Win7 but not by much. I've told all of my friends running Vista to absolutely get Win7 because it makes that much of a difference. I'm grateful that I do have a Mac, as it allows me to run two solid OS's on one powerful machine.
I noticed a huge decrease in battery life after upgrading from 2.2.1 to 3.0 with my first-gen iPhone, and many things seemed sluggish (though I dealt with it b/c of the landscape sms and email). I was interested to see the difference between 3.0, 2.2.1, and 1.1.4 which is what it originally came with, in terms of battery, speed, and overall performance.

As stated, 3.0 has been the worst, in terms of battery life and overall performance. 2.2.1 is a happy medium that has pretty good battery life, decent speed, and doesn't crash at all--and it includes the app store (and cydia--I'm on t-mo). However, the disparity between 3.0 and 1.1.4 is astounding! 1.1.4 is incredibly quick and responsive, and i'm still at 90% battery after a day usage. Safari renders webpages with ease and doesn't chug along like it does in the later OS-es (even though the Safari in 3.0 passes the Acid3 benchmarks).

I read somewhere (maybe TUAW comments section) and it makes sense, that each OS release is tailored to the phone that is released with it-- so naturally 1.1.4 is optimized for the iPhone 2G, 2.0-2.2.1 for the 3G and 3.0-3.x.x for the 3GS. I don't have enough evidence to definitivey say that, maybe other people can share their experiences.

Right now I'm going to stick with 1.1.4 as I don't really need any of the apps from the app store, and the only one I used was the MLB app to follow the Mets (Mets fan living in Philly...FML) and their season has been over for a long while now. And it seems that the Web Apps that Apple originally supported have gotten more powerful since the App Store release.
could use a new xbox with HDMI
Nevermind...thats the Singapore Apple site...ugh sorry that one got by me..
I just saw on TUAW that Apple delayed the release until Thursday... check it out:

I have an iMac, and would like to continue purchasing Apple products, but for everyday usage, the laptop she purchased is actually a pretty good computer. In my experiences, Vista hasn't been as bad as people (including myself, just b/c its fun to bash Vista), and it should work quite well on an AMD dual-core processor with 4GB. I mean the thing even has HDMI, which is really convenient these days. Just my opinion on the matter...and I hope these commercials do influence Apple to cut Mac prices down!
That really is an impressive amount of new subscribers for one quarter, but I wonder how the DTV switchover mess had to do with that number. It's sad really, even at the college level there are professors and students who are not aware of what the DTV switchover is, which frightens me to think what the rest of the nation's understanding is of the situation (except for those who are loyal Enadget and EndgadgetHD readers). I'd be willing to bet that a large portion of those new subscribers joined up out due to confusion or misunderstanding of the switchover.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Then I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!"
