I live about 2 miles from the tragic kingdom...I love Vegas and I approve this message
Had the 6700, upgraded (via insurance) to the 6800.

There is nothing that I can't do on the 6800 that I couldn't do on the 6700 so anyone asking should get the 6700 if it's a money issue. The 6800 just has better numbers...camera, memory, etc.

The one thing I hated about my 6700 was that the 'special' characters were not back lit...they were printed on the keys...this sucked when trying to type something that required a ! @ ~ etc...at least on the 6800 these are back lit (also the 6800 has a adaptive back light option...turns on only when it's dark!); the photo sensor is just above the keyboard. Brilliant!

Accessories-wise, same as the 6700 MINUS a dock...that sorta sucked. Seidio sells a third-party dock for like $40 though. I always get me cases, holsters and bases from them anyways so I shelled out $100 for the set (just like I did for my 6700).

The spring-assisted slide is nice but it did throw me off that the direction was switched (no biggie). Camera is super sensitive to movement but at least it takes much nicer night shots (longer exposures?)

The addition of the messaging and web buttons was much needed and the placement of the power button on the side was a better choice too.

I wish they put the media reader on the top of the thing...just easier to get to when the cable or headphones are plugged in.

Another neat addition is the shuffle wheel on the side...I haven't used it much but I'm starting to. Granted the thumb stick works in much the same way so I don't feel jaded. Also, they added a toggle switch on the left side to turn WiFi on/off...nice. Granted, I usually just use the comm manager but hey, the more buttons the better.

I just read on HTC's site that they are coming out with a new ROM 1Q 2008 that will allow for EVDO Rev A and GPS support! Here's to hoping.
Aw, hell that was a good one!
Not claiming to be a scientist or anything but when was the last time you saw a radio wave be used to power a piston? Pretty kewl stuff. Great way to convert one thing (that does a,b,c stuff) into another (that does x,y,z stuff).
Why all the fuss...I can break thru a lock without touching it...go through the window next to the door (unless of course there are bars on them).
My PPC 6700 - Internet, email, video, music, camera, and oh yeah...I occasionally call people with it. I'd much rather like to just carry 1 device that does it all instead of all the devices that do just 1 thing.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
