"The DVD format war has divided our customers in a way we haven't seen since Betamax took on VHS more than 20 years ago," said Brian J. Dunn, president and chief operating officer for Best Buy."

Was Best Buy around during the VHS vs. Betamax format war?
Dumb ass cell companies. That's called "negotiating with terrorists." Now that they know they can get away with that, who knows what they'll try next.
I am actually really glad Laura Bush used my tax dollars to redecorate that room (did you look at the "before" pictures of it?). Can you imagine a Saudi Prince or some of those guys that actually have golden toilets going into that old theatre? It would be an embarrassment to our country. I am in agreement that the leaders of our country and our historical landmarks (such as the White House) need to be kept presentable at all times.

P.S. It looks like this theatre is used to treat underprivileged children to movies more than it is for the President to catch the latest episode of 24.
Wow... the format war went on for so long that I thought people would be more educated about the topic. There really are some seriously ignorant posts in this thread (either ignorant of just butt-hurt HD-DVD supporters).
I've had the same Blu Ray player since December of 2006 and continually buy new Blu Ray movies and have NEVER not been able to play one. Do you even know what you're talking about?
It doesn't surprise me one bit that they won't admit any regret. The Japanese pride is unlike anything I have ever seen. It's just a good thing there weren't any samurai swords around when this announcement was made.
If I were to purchase the LaserShield system, I wouldn't advertise it with their stickers and yard signs. That's when you invite the thief to come in with his cheap walkie-talkie and defeat the sensors. If you don't advertise what kind of system you have, the chances of your early detection working and getting the police on the way are much better. Honestly, what criminal would carry a walkie-talkie with him/her into a home invasion unless he/she knew there was a LaserShield installed because of the huge signs and stickers outside the house.
And there are no American soldiers at the Baghdad Airport.
In related news, this graphic just got out in South Central Los Angeles and Crips are walking around with their heads a little taller. The Bloods are worried and thinking about slashing their prices.
Maybe Venturer will get into making Blu Ray players.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
