Every company has a business plan. Just because Microsoft sells standalone operating systems doesn't mean that Apple should too! Just because Apple has it's own retail stores doesn't mean that Microsoft..... well you get the point. Obviously both Microsoft and Apple are good at what they do. As long as they stick to what they do well, they are both going to be doing fine. Apple likes to keep it's products niche with higher revenue margin and Microsoft likes to cater to the masses. There are obvious advantages/disadvantages to both those strategies, but the last thing each company needs to do derail from their business plan. Apple has always tried to create the ultimate personal computing experience while Bill Gate's vision was a computer in very home.
Not all TN panels are created equal. There are some high end Samsung and Dell monitors that are quite good for gaming. Has decent viewing angles and pretty amazing 6-bit colors. If it doesn't say PVA or IPS (or any variant of it), assume that it's a TN panel. A test I like to show people is to place a TN panel next to a PVA and IPS panel and fill the screen with orange background and you see how dull and uneven the color are on the TN panel. Even if you're seating right in front of it, the color varies a lot from one corner to the other. While IPS is just amazing it has slow response time and are expensive, but it's most fitted for color critical work (Apple Cinema monitors are IPS). PVA seems to be a good in between in speed, color, and price. Actually PVAs have deeper, richer blacks than IPS and are great for watching HD movies.
That's the power of branding. It's all about user experience, unique features, and perception. I get what you're saying, but the perception of computers itself is changing. While it used to be enough to just get a computer, now people want "nice" computers. It's like automobiles, there was a time when all people wanted was just to have one, but look at automobiles now. I myself build custom PCs for gaming, but I use Macs for design work. Just because you're someone that works on a 67' fastback in his garage doesn't mean that you can't appreciate a new BMW.
Agreed, if they are going to be so strict about this, is it going to go both ways? Will you get the advertised bandwidth? I have been in tree different neighborhoods with TWC and I always got half of the advertised bandwidth. Ummm... Cable companies confuse me. First they cripple everyone on the same node if one person triggers the throttle. Now they somehow have a way to monitor and control each subscriber's connection? The only reason I'm didn't get U-verse or FIOS was the price. But I guess now it makes sense to switch.
I was thinking the same, but I think it's like an homage to the classic Japanese giant robot live action flicks. The ones that Power Rangers was modeled decades after they were a big hit in Japan. Honestly, they were cheesy with bad special FX and terrible editing. I hope that this is what they were after, lol. Kinda reminds of an episode of Dexter's Lab where he goes to Japan and every calssmate has a giant robot they control with their wristwatch.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
