Ask Engadget HD: Which AV receiver has the best upscaling chip? {Engadget HD}
Jul 9th 2008 12:20PM Yes, the HQV chip is king! The Denon 5308 has the top of the line has the Realta HQV chip. That is their top of the line chip. The Reon HQV, while excellent, is not quite up to snuff. If i'm not mistaken, the onkyo 905 and 875 come with the Reon version. Both good choices. If you want the best, you need to consider the Denon with the Realta chip.

Panasonic's TH-50PZ700U plasma becomes 'best ever tested' {Engadget}
Oct 2nd 2007 10:58AM While Panasonic plasmas have been well regarded for the past few years, i don't think they come close to the picture you get from a pioneer or fujitsu plasma. just one man's opinion of course...

Denon's first Blu-ray player stuns with features and $2k pricetag {Engadget HD}
Jul 25th 2007 11:29AM It is well worth the price! It is no secret that the HQV chip is worth the price of admission. The job it does in terms of scaling, is nothing less than breathtaking! It will help the integrity of the blu-ray picture as well. I've tried all the blu ray players to date, and in my opinion, the samsung 1200 has the best picture. It uses the lower end Realta HQV chip and it still outshines the others, in both SD upconversion, and cleaning up the bluray picture as well. It has a more 3 dimensional effect than the others i've tested. That includes the much revered panny dmp-bd10a. Count me in!
The Fifth Element on Blu-ray to be remastered {Engadget HD}
May 17th 2007 10:51AM I think what's important to note here is that "The Fifth Element" has always been considered "reference material" and just about every high end store that i've visited for the past few years, has always used the The Fifth Element in their demo rooms. While it came as no surprise that Sony released this Blu-Ray early on, many of the videophiles have judged Blu-Ray solely on that disc alone! I have to believe that the re-mastering will turn this title into the "reference" title once again!
