1998 called, wanting its cutting-edge media formats back. the macbook air and my netbook answered that call.
I've been using win7 since the RC's and I still like mac osx better. in win7, the taskbar is much improved, but alt-tabbing is still just not as good as OSX's. If I hover over one of those icons, it shows me that app, but when I let go, it switches me to the app I tabbed to with the keyboard, not moused over and am now looking at. Also, I got the alt-tab interface to show up BEHIND all my apps one time. That was annoyingly fun.

Explorer is improved, but still lags well behind finder. As for stability.... sorry. My dell mini 9 seems to run OSX better than my tri-core DDR3-ram, etc,etc beast of a desktop machine running win7. I've gotten explorer.exe to crash often enough. just like xp, just like 2000, just like win 98, etc, etc.
I like the logo. It looks like a depressed proletariat carrying a heavy burden for the state. Howzit pronounced? Chi?
The only secure computer is one powered off and locked away deep underground. And even then if you really want it to be secure, your best bet is to destroy it.
booting in safe mode (-x at the boot: prompt) and running the latest dellEFI tool worked great for me when upgrading to 10.5.7 Jerry-rigging was not necessary. I'm finishing up the 10.5.8 install as I'm typing so I'll have to wait to see if I need to do that again.
hopefully my hackintosh will restart without problems
How does that even work? What if you have a scanner and all computers go at once? Is it mapped one device per machine? I haven't read TFA, and I don't understand it
I'd say it would be a good upgrade for you. Your new bottleneck will be your processor if you get this or a 9800, and you'll have a good card for when/if you upgrade that. I just bought one of these and I'm currently using an 8600 gt. A year ago a card that performs like this would have cost two to three times as much. You'll definitely see an improvement over your 7800gt.
I've been waiting to buy one of these! Newegg has a bunch that all look the same...
I saw plans for building something like this (big, but you could mount it in the back of a station wagon) a decade ago, but I forget where. I'm sure proper engineering can greatly affect it's potency, but even with the parts you could buy at a hardware store it sounded impressive.

Oh, and best not to be in front of it if you have pacemaker or other cyborg life support systems.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
