So what's new with this? I remember seeing a software/handheld scanner combo with the exact same functionality back in 1996 - probably he's upped the compression ratio, but that's not very original...
Indeed sound on this thing is awesome. Noise cancelling has to be the most efficient I've experienced, it totally blocks out ambient noise to a dangerous degree. And yes, it's a stupid review. The jack is proprietary, but only because it incorporates the mic line on the plug: the way it works is that the device itself takes care of noise processing, and therefore you don't need a bulky outside unit (as with other headphones). HOWEVER, you can always use normal headphones with the device, just missing the noise cancelling. Those headphones, by the way, are really good.

The basic flaw with this device is the proprietary USB plug (GODDAMMIT!!!) and it weight, which is quite a bit over the usual threshold (but then again the materials quality is great). Also the screen is not bright enough, even though it's two steps above previous SONY OLED implementations - you can't use it under the sun. And, yes indeed, f*ck Sonicstage... it has come a long way, but still, I DEMAND drag'n'drop!

Cheers

PS Just saw the original review - it DOES mention battery life.
Used to work for Sony until a while ago... those navigators were the worst in the market, suffering from a variety of very severe faults - no wonder they flunked. Hope they're getting it better with newer models...
jumpymathguy, PlaysForSure is not only about the plain format, it's also about DRM. THe problem is, obviously, with WMA and ASF - they don't have the DRM certification necessary for the device to be compatible with many legal music download sites.
Errrr, guys, this is NOT supposed to be a prosumer or a low-end dSLR cam, this is only the successor (actually, two of them) of the H1 which was merely a good, high-zoom consumer DSC. Nothing more, nothing less. Comparing it to the R1 (don't really have an opinion on the others) is silly, to say the least...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
