It's nice how engadget puts their own twist on headlines to make their headlines more attractive. I'm smart enough to figure out that this won't improve battery life 12-fold, and after reading the story it's even more obvious.

Engadget, Quit 'exaggerating' your headlines to get page views. You've lost what little credibility you've ever had.

Not as many people may have paid attention to this headline if it said "Student's tech provides significant increase in battery life", but at least you wouldn't be lying to your readers... *cough*
I'm sure this thing will go through dozens more changes before it is released. I think too many people are focusing on the shape and not the technology behind it.

I think it would be neat sitting around a table playing a game with 3 other people that was specifically made for this... if it hits the market, it will probably happen.

I agree that the flat surface seems more functional, but maybe they have some better ideas that these people that get paid more money than i'll ever see in my life were able to come up...

I think some of you forget that there are people more creative than you... and that if you put enough semi-creative people in a room, one of them just might have a good idea! :)
That's all well and good, but...

Is that 700watts RMS or peak? 700 watt peak would be nice in a 4 speaker/1 sub setup, but a 10 speaker setup... waste of power for low volume and minimal improvement in quality.

Now, as far as the in car computing goes... FANTASTIC! Anyone that does in-home or on-site services could benefit greatly from this...
Erm... The mystery that was solved was whether the screen shots were real. Spilled the beans meaning we actually have a more reliable source of information. You are slow, I think.

A lot of people were saying the screenshots were fake, because it looked like Vista. As someone said earlier, they are going to develop the core components first, then worry about the eye-candy.

This is an excellent post, because I was unsure whether the screenies were real or fake, and this SOLVES THAT MYSTERY.

As far as your opinion goes, I'm sure engadget cares about it about as much as the pope cares about it... not at all. You are wasting your time.
I got a tx1000 and love it. If you calibrate the screen it is fairly accurate. It also needs broken in... After a while of use it is amazing.

I have a few complaints, but for $1200, I can't complain one bit. It's light, small, and quick. Sure it may not be able to run really graphic-intense programs at lightning speed, but as a super-portable laptop for basic uses like internet, office, etc.. it is awesome.

Oh, but the speakers on the tx1000 series suck bad. That's my biggest complaint.
Not to mention that a 20" 1080p display would work well, too, because it can be a TV replacement. You can replace a 20" TV and a desktop computer with a laptop.. not a bad deal if space is an issue.
Without reading all the comments, I'd like to say that big screen laptops are amazing. I have an old widescreen 17" pavilion.. too heavy to carry everywhere, but it worked well in my dorm room, and was portable enough to carry if I needed to, which was not very often. It was comparable in power to the mid-level desktops of the day, played most current games decently, and had a lot of nice features.

It has since been joined by a HP tablet, which goes with me everywhere, but the old laptop still sits on my desk at my apartment, where it is used occasionally for gaming (the computer is 4 years old, and keeps up with my 1 year old tablet, graphics wise), svideo output movies to my TV, etc..

There is a verygood amrket for these: college undergrads. They don't need to carry a computer to all their classes, but its usually jhelpful having something a little mroe space-efficient.
When they make a 450hp quad-bike, I'll be on board.... I'm not impressed with a 450cc scooter.
Wow, way to put a positive spin on such a drawback.

My cousin has a Chrysler Crossfire that gets about 25mpg and has no back seat, either.... I'd take it over a SMART any day... especially with only 30mpg.
I agree with those who said that fines should be scaled. I go to West virginia University, and for parking illegally in university lots, you get a $10 fine... And at the end of the year, you can get a $10 ticket forgiven if you bring in a few cans of canned food.

A $10 fine stops people like me, but the rich kids whose parents pay all their bills and give them thousands of dollars of spending money each month doesn't do anything to them.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
