The balance of force in Star Wars: the Old Republic {Massively}
Nov 15th 2009 4:33PM Are there any concrete PVP plans for this game. I think I remember something mentioned in passing, but they don't seem to be trumpeting it right now, which makes me think SWTOR could be a largely PVE affair?
Aion live server numbers crunched {Massively}
Nov 13th 2009 4:41PM If you check out the website, the class distribution is fairly stable between servers, maybe a few percent here and there.

Nov 13th 2009 1:01AM I agree with Jay on this one, I need to be impressed as LOTRO has got stale.

No Turbine Points for you, this one is a free to play walkthrough so gonna have to keep it that way. While it's nice to unlock the content, we did already vote on what we wanted to see, so I'm afraid I will vote again for FTP only.
If Turbine see that you are struggling to make headway, they might even make more content free for everyone ;)
LotRO's spellbinding 'Lieutenant of Dol Guldur' trailer {Massively}
Nov 4th 2009 12:18AM I just sat down with Dragon Age :Origins this evening, MMO's don't seem very much fun anymore.
I don't LOTRO is epic enough any more, it's a bit limp. People are cock-a-hoop about 2 minutes of voice over, Dragon Age has HOURS. Let's get this into perspective people, 30 minutes from a good voiceover actor, and walls of text in game, I know I'd rather they address this balance a bit ore.
I know the two aren't the same type of game, but given LOTRO's heavy 'PvE' content, given the option of getting radiance gear over and over, or creating my own adventures and watching peoples reaction to 'quests' makes Turbines offering seems strangely dated.
Now if only Dragon Age was multiplayer....
With regard the trailer, average, graphics look awfully dated now for some reason, the vistas are lovely, I think it's the animation, not sure, something looks odd. To be honest I'm a bit sick of Turbines attitude to this IP. I'll wait and see how this expansion is, but given it's a bit of a rip off in terms of price, their shoddy pricing structure, they will need to impress, more of the same isn't going to cut it.
Welcome to Massively's third year! {Massively}
Nov 2nd 2009 8:02PM Thank you all for massively for giving me so much to moan about, for so long!
Hope you go from strength to strength and grow the site (did you ever consider forums?), and I think the time for poorly executed, sub-par MMO's has passed/is passing now, so brighter things on the horizon, I think the industry needed to be shaken up a little, a wake up call, and for consumers to see value when they pay their subscriptions and demand excellence.
I think next year will be the battle royale of subscription based models. I can see at least two major MMO's converting to free to play (echoing DDO's 40% increase in revenue), more offering cash shops, and others trying to capitalize every which way they can, sadly.
I also think that games like Darkfall and Mortal Online are steps towards a more life like genre of sand box experience that EVE has helped pioneer and grow.
In another three years time, people will have far greater levels of interaction with game worlds both physically and on screen, the experience will persist outside of the games themselves and the trend for the IP's to extend outside into social networking will increase steadily..... and then, the next big thing (tm) will come along and turn the whole industry on it's head. I read that the 'game changers' in industry happen every 7 years or so, I think we are due one soon!
Anyway thank you for always being on hand to offer news, views and feedback on MMO's, I realize it's not easy putting some of this stuff together sometimes and to everyone else who visits Massively, we all may disagree from time to time, but it's a nice community of like minded individuals and right or wrong, it's great that more and more people are getting involved.
Happy Birthday Massively
P.S. usual service resumes tomorrow, please publish a AoC for me to get my teeth into...
P.P.S Hit Cryptic up for Star Trek Beta keys to celebrate, they owe you after pushing Champions Online so hard :)
The perils of MMO tourism {Massively}
Nov 2nd 2009 10:59AM Interesting, a term I used last Friday...
Aion releases tentative patch notes for 1.5.1 {Massively}
Oct 30th 2009 5:36PM Some people are just MMO tourists, the same people who won't keep at anything too long, they have initial interest, are suckers for the hype, think it will change their life.... however, just don't have the attention span.
I also find that these people are terribly vocal about leaving a MMO and bad mouthing it for a while after too. MMO companies recognize this demographic and largely ignore their feedback, as they never stick at anything anyway, they made money off the box sale, so it's still profitable, they are now someone else's problem....
....and yes, before anyone asks, I'm one of those people :)
