Water-powered clock is here to save the environment {Engadget}

Jul 15th 2008 7:41AM It's like a car battery. You know how your battery can go "dead", but you can just drain it and replace the acid before charging it?

Well the acid is the electrolyte; the electrons aren't actually removed from the electrodes, so they don't 'go bad'/'run out' of power so you replace the electrolyte and the battery springs back to life!

Jul 15th 2008 6:30AM It doesn't sound like it's powered by water, instead water acts as an electrolyte. The power is stored in the electrodes.

Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: for enemy {Engadget}

Dec 25th 2007 5:27PM Oh brilliant! Release the guide *after* I've spent my money buying presents for my enemies.

Oh, hang on. Yup, I'm the fool here...

Cologne firemen make haste in rescuing crash test dummies {Engadget}

Dec 11th 2007 3:33PM "at least they got to take the fire engine out for a leisurely spin."
And hopefully there wasn't a building burning down across town at the same time.

Doesn't matter what the cause was, fake callouts aren't a joke, guys. It's only a bit of fun until someone burns to death, because the people who were meant to be saving them were somewhere else. Right?

DIY SCUBA tank boost pump (for mixing gases) {Hack a Day}

Dec 1st 2007 3:24PM joelanders, yes, thanks for correcting that. I added an extra 0 on the end, and did in fact mean 4.5k PSI.

for anyone who's interested, I use a 1.1 litre carbon fibre wrapped steel tank to store high pressure air at 4.5k PSI, which gets regulated down by my tank reg to 850 PSI. that then gets lowered to about 130 PSI by my inline regulator before going through a solenoid and bolt assembly.

it costs me like £1 to get my tank filled or free for when I'm at a field playing, but it would be nice to have a compressor to have infinite fills while at home training

Nov 30th 2007 4:14AM If someone could make one that outputs HPA at 45000PSI, I would love them forever!
