You can also use 3rd party software like dropbox or other cloud storage system with Android.
Edit : I am also using from time to time, bluetooth transfers between my computer an the tablet
The Transformer supports full-size SD cards with the dock attached, while both the Iconia and the Transformer will support MicroSD. When you pop the card back in, it rescans and the files are made available. The Transformer has a really nice file manager app built-in too, and I'd recommend installing Rockplayer for playing xvid/divx avi files.
Otherwise, using MTP to connect the tablet to your PC is actually dead simple - you can drag and drop your media files on any modern version of Windows, although on a Mac you will need to install an add-on app to support MTP. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 supports MTP too, but by default uses its proprietary KIES software which tends to get in the way. It's possible to disable that though, and set the default connection mode to MTP.
Dropbox, Box.net and so on are good options too, and well worth looking at.
Obviously, just use iTunes for the iPad.
You will need a free file manager to browse your files in some cases. The music, video, and gallery apps do automatically detect any related content copied to your SD card though, so you don't really have to go hunting around, just open the appropriate app and it will see the content there.
The file manager comes in handy sometimes though for different scenarios, like maybe it's easier to delete files from the file manager, but really not necessary.
I recommend ASTRO as an excellent free file manager for Android.
If playing video files, many will work, but you may want to use handbrake to convert to a friendlier file format that will ensure smooth playback on your tablet.
