Do you ever see people take photos with an iPad (or any tablet) in public?
Anyway, while we're up there taking photos of this amazingly picturesque valley, a family gets out of a car, comes up to the edge and starts snapping photos with their iPad 2. AN IPAD 2?! It's capturing all of 0.3 megapixels. They're passing it around, taking pictures of the valley, their kids, and themselves. And they hand it to someone to take a picture of their whole family.
The photographer inside me cried. The tech geek inside me also cried. Come onnnnnnn. I do feel like I'm seeing this more and more. (I saw another family take photos with one at a dinner this weekend as well.)
Is this something you think is becoming more and more common? Do you see it? How do you feel about it?
EDIT: I was mixing up the megapixels between front and back. The rear camera takes roughly 1280 x 720 images, which is about 0.9MP. Thanks bb4u for the correction!
I think this is getting more and more common though because I see a lot of people, my mom included, take real pictures with their iPod Touch. It's natural for them to take those same pictures with the iPad.
I definitely love this quote -- I think Chase Jarvis was the first person I heard say it? But it's great. And I mostly agree. I'm sure those families are going to have memories they'll be able to share via email, Facebook, Twitter, or even those digital photo frames. But I feel like the iPad 2 (and most tablet cameras) are of such poor quality, it's hardly worth it.
iPhone 4 is a different story altogether -- that's nearly replaced my point and shoot as well. The quality is fantastic for a phone camera. I suppose if the iPad 2 had the iPhone's camera inside of it, I'd probably find something else to complain about. "That tablet is freaking huge, are you kidding me?!"
Maybe after the individuals take the picture or video and see their results, they will remember to bring another device to take care of the photography. Or, since the iPad pictures stay on the iPad, since many people are not syncing, maybe they look OK...that is until they are sent to one of us, and the tears begin again...here's for hoping for a new iPad soon...
Some people may like one aspect of the iPad or tablets in general that it is WYSIWYG (the display resolution nearly matches the resolution of the resulting photos).
The back camera can do 720P video, which is 1280 x 720 pixels → 0.9MP.
That's still pretty bad.
And also, was watching the news the other night and they had a segment on there about something dealing with the Redwood forest; it showed people in the woods with iPad 2s snapping away.
