How good is it for iMovie? Should I wait for Haswell?
How much of a difference will Haswell make for my needs? (Mostly video editing in iMovie.)
if you can wait for the refresh i would say wait.
this close to a refresh which we know they have started to do with the Airs i would say your looking at a few months before the Mini gets its refresh. My guess is that it will be refreshed when they release Mavericks. i have my fingers crossed that it would bee sooner but i doubt it. i think the last refresh was in September or October of last year.

So we're back to that question: how much of a difference should the Intel HD Graphics 5000 be for my rather light usage? How much faster, if at all, will a Haswell machine run iMovie than an Ivy Bridge would?
here is a part of the article from the above link.
In comparison to the HD 4000, the graphics core has been modified extensively. The GPU supports DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 4.0. It also features an improved decoder for 4K videos and the fast Quick Sync encoder.
According to Intel benchmarks in 3DMark 11, the HD Graphics 5000 will be up to 50 percent faster than the previous HD 4000.
As for the processor Tom's Hardware has a article up on it and here is the link.
I would suggest reading the article or just skipping to the results either way its a good article that covers a lot.
And to jump to almost the end of the article they wrote : Haswell has a lot to offer, just not to desktop enthusiasts. Intel’s attention is fully in the mobile space, and we can tell.
And to answer your original question "How good is it for iMovie? Should i wait for Haswell?" I would say wait. you will see some major improvements over what you are running today. Waiting to decide will give you 2 options.
- The 1st being you get the newest processor and any other improvements apple makes to the machine.
- if you choose to with the current processor you will see them moved to the refurbished and clearance section of the page and see a price drop. but if you are looking at a custom build you will not be able to customize these.
