This is question will really boil down to personal OS preferences. I love the google nexus 4 and also an owner of iphone device. However, both have their pros and cons as all things do. I think the google nexus gives the iphone 4s a good run for its money! I personal would suggest the nexus if you can get your hands on one.

It's an easy answer...Get both...first get the free iPhone then get the Nexus and switch your SIM card back and forth until you decide from first hand experience which you prefer. At the end you'll end up spending the same amount of money since one of the phones is "free".

I would have to go Nexus 4.
The iPhone 4s has maybe 1 more year of full updates before it doesn't get all the new goodness when apple releases the next version of the OS.

The Nexus 4 is the current top Nexus phone and should be good for at least 2 years. you can get it a good price and not have to worry about the 2 year contract so if in a year you see something better you can use your contract upgrade then. that is if the Nexus doesn't work out for you.

As for the S3 its a great phone and worth the price. but my issue with it is that its skinned by Samsung and custom software from them not just the UI. It doesn't get timely updates from Samsung to the next OS. Also there are rumors that the S4 is going to be shown at CES in January. if thats the case how long till Samsung slows the dev on the S3 and its Software updates start taking even longer.

Personally i prefer the Nexus line because of that and also the iPhone gets timely software updates also.

go for nexus 4, although built by lg, it has google influence, which makes it a great piece, design is simplistic-elegant, features are very good.
